A few weeks ago someone said something about making clear lenses with his cousin for his cousins LS.

Well if that person actually reads this is there any luck with this project yet?

that was me

we took a sheet of a plastic diffuser (thats what the guy at lowes called it when i explained what it was) for floresent lights he got at lowes, then took out his amber corners and cut out the general shape make sure to leave it a little larger than the orignal. then i used a heat gun to heat up the clear piece while laying it over the amber piece to give it the correct shape. after we got the shape right i took a dremel and cut it as close to size as i could then just used a little epoxy to hold them in

it took a few attemps to get it right, but a sheet was like $5 and was 2'x3' so there was enough to make like 10 or 15 pieces

the end result was pretty good, it wasnt perfect, there was a little bit of "wave" that i couldnt get out (it wasnt my car, and i wasnt getting paid so i got it close enough for goverment work) but you had to get VERY close to notice (like you had to bend over to get a closer look before you seen it)

i never tried to make a better set for mine because i liked how it looked without lenses better, only after i got bulbs that where chrome when they where off (kinda like siverstars but they didnt turn greenish yellow after a while)

Ok I copied it and saved it. I had pretty much that entire thing in mind but i dont have a heat gun so I have been thinking about heating it up in the oven and then bending it over.

I was hoping you got some pics by now but I figured you just forgot about it. You dont know the thickness do you? I know there is a few different sizes as far as thickness and what I am worrying about is the way the OEM lens have some lip to them and the two long notches to help stay in place. I would like to not use epoxy if I can swing it somehow. The OEM lens also is like fused to the bezel on the long bottom notch. Im wondering if there is a way I can get iot on to be almost like stock.

If anyone reading this still has the clear LSK lens, can you chime in on whether or not they have the same lip and the two long notches ( one on top and one on the bottom )?

getting the right temp was the hardest part, not hot enough and it wont form right and will be real lumpy, too much heat and it started to loose the reflector like pattern

we also went with the thinest stuff we could find to make it easier to form. i used a very small emount of epoxy just a dot in the four corners to hold it that way it would be very easy to take out if he wanted with out leaving a huge mess

i also remember the last time i talked about this someone else said that they made them for their car pretty much the same way but they made them a little bit larger and when they squeezed them in they stuck so they didnt need any glue

Yup, I was part of that thread. I was the one that said I read of someone before suggesting that they can just fit in snug if you make them a bit larger.

I think I may use a slightly thicker one and be patient with heating it up and bending it just to see if it would fit in with out epoxy.

EDIT: Or I could just take the amber lens with me and check out the thickness. Whoops!

Went out to Lowes and they had 2'x2' sheets for 3.95$! They did only have one thickness and it was very, very pliable so I think I will look at a few other places tomorrow for some thicker stuff. Im thinking I can get just the right thickness and not even have to shape it really just fit it tight and with that thought I have been thinking it may just be best to glue it in one way or another.
