Sorry if this is a dead horse post. Been fighting a no heat situation on a 2002 ls v8 now this morning dropping kids off at school the car started stumbling like its misfiring also I have been hearing what sounds like a Diesel engine clatter, low volume crisp clatter sound at low speeds only at light accelaration can it be heard. Could this be the timing chain issue that was a problem on these motors, or a coil going out. I have no check engine light yet, will know tonight cause I plan on driving it to work. To see if any thing changes. Also if it's the timing chain how much to fix it at a mechanic or DIY.

If you think a chain tensioner broke, you can pull the valve covers, or you can remove the lower oil pan. The broken tensioners usually end up falling down into the oil pan.
