I have a 2002 V6 LSE with about 58k miles on it. I drove to my parents house from work the other day ( about 30 miles) and the car was running fine- got home parked it, and then washed it about an hour later. When I started it up to drive it after washing it I had a check engine light on. I took the car for a spin and it was running fine, no misses or stumbles or hesitation. I came back and disconnected the battery for about an hour, and then hooked it back up to go back to my apartment (about 35 miles). I had no light on until about 30 miles into the trip when it came back on. The car is still running fine, not showing any symptoms thats I can feel/tell. About 3 weeks ago I put on an intake, but hopefully that shouldn't be throwing anything (its a KKM). Also, I have run 89 octane before, but this is the first time I've run on it in a few months. Maybe the combo of heat/ac/89 octane caused it? I will get the codes pulled today, but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas why I would get the light but the car still run fine.

Take it to autozone, they will read the code for you for free. Post it back here and we'll see if we can help with the diag.

I can't remember the code numbers now, but it showed up on the Autozone scanner as Excessive EGR flow. They told me possibly EGR valve or diaphragm, but I wanted to check here first. It was p 0402 or some combo of those numbers ( I wish I could remember now- too much going on in my head I guess today). Any other ideas? If I need to get the code read again and get the numbers I'll stop by the Advance on the way home.

I had the same code come up a few months back. I replaced the EGR valve, cleared the code and it has been fine ever since.

Went by and got the code read and a printout. The code was P0402. I do have a KKM CAI, should I start with replacing the EGR valve?
