Tues. night...in tha rain..wipers were on, lights, defraust, radio, heat...basically everything...and this light came on.... smallest thing this could be is a weak battery....pulled over, turned everything off and the light went away....i drive an 02 LS V8 Sport w/ 40k......if anyone else has experienced this have you found it to be the battery or the alternator...I took it to the dealership, but of course they're going to say it's only the battery, we charged it, you're good to go...

Well, the way the charging system on the car is SUPPOSED to work is it uses the alternator to supply the needs of the systems and the battery as a back up when those demands exceed alternator output. It sounds like you had a heavy load on the car, but the alternator should have been able to handle that...especially if you were driving the car and not idling. I would charge the battery then have the alternator output checked out. My guess is you have a diode out of it and it's not reaching capacity.

check charging system error should 99% of the time point to the charging system and not the battery. The car SHOULD run without a battery. so if you are getting a voltage drop it's likely alternator related...diode, VR, etc...

It may be your battery connections, or other connections. The resistance from a bad connection can really effect power transfer.

I had a bad battery and my check charging system warning came on, the battery was acting up a few time before it actually came on(car was dead). Took it to the dealer had them check the charging system to be sure and everything was fine. Replaced battery and haven't had any problems since. Have you system checked out and check your battery too.
