beautiful Made in America, machined precision steel

Auburns are pretty good. Only thing is the reg one cannot be rebuilt only the auburn Pro can be from my old nogin. How much for all that?

$75, I could have given less, but the seller was a young Navy vet, VOFW
....counting the splines in the carrier makes my eyes hurt...pretty sure it's 28

Yup, thats the base model auburn, with the cone type clutch. Do not use this to drag race. This differential does not hold up to drag launches. It can't be rebuilt.

Aurburn does state in ad for this "not recommended for drag racing" I think they mean high rpm clutch drops on slicks. But we really don't know. Our cars at strip are like street launches. All I know is my Ford trac lock handles 1.58 60ft in mine.

Yup base Auburn. I think the drag deal is the cones dig into the case and hard launches shorten the life/added wear/eventually won't grab.

Good deal tho for a Mark swap. 28 spline is perfect unless you have swapped to 03-04 Cobra axles.

And yes that still amazes me as that is even getting into axle breaking territory. :D

before I found this set locally (the 4.10:1 and the Auburn) I purchased on ebay a used Trac-Lock ($85) from a GT that will be here in a few days; if they were both in like new cond, I'd use the Trac Lock and sell the Auburn, but I'm thinking the Trac Lock has more miles on it and may need rebuilding, so I plan to use the Auburn...unless the Auburn is destined to fail...no drag racing for me; not sure what 'launch' implies

Auburn will be just fine then. Launch refers to punching the throttle/dumping the clutch at the start of a dragrace.

Yeah launch as in accellerating hard from a dead stop, I don't see how it couldn't handle a fairly stock mark viii with roughly 250 ft lbs of torque at the wheels, its one thing if it were a manual dropping the clutch at a high rpm, but with an auto it really doesn't shock the driveline very much since there's already a load on the trans, driveshaft and IRS, especially if you're brake torquing it.

I don't know yet but i'm trying. :D

let me know when it happens will yea. its one of my concerns with my mark putting in a 4.10 with a trak-loc thats built with extra cluches and a dirty dog kit. i dont goto the track yet but i do like to drop the hammer at red lights.

one day ill get one of those un nessasary acceleration tickets :)

here in Georgia racing on the street is straight to lock up, $1,000 cash bond....I'm getting either the 3.73 or this 4.10 installed later this week; hopefully i won't tear it up. I don't drop the hammer on green lights, but I don't like soccer moms or ricers whizzing by me

Just as long as you don't neutral bomb your mark, that auburn should hold up. Shame its not a 31 spline.

And go 4.10's. Anything less will leave you unhappy.

the axles wi be fine. you need quite a bit of power to break axles with an auto... drivetrain shock kills them in a manual.

i've got a lot of miles on my car. jmod, 4.10s, chip, big heavy wheels and tires. haven't broke anything yet. and i drive it. powerslides, 1-2 shift chirps, donuts, wheel spinning launches, and so on.

just keep the wheel hop to a minimum. that's the drivetrain shock that breaks stuff.

and you can run extra clutches if you really want, but i have the cobra clutches and bigger s spring. and hard low speed turns spin the inside tire.. how much stiffer does it need to be?
that's what i suggest running.

yea i think racing here will get your car crushed actually. i saw some interesting racing on the I75 freeway while i was heading over to another members place. a couple of mustangs and a camaro they would block all 3 lanes of traffic and slow down so they could create a race lane and then 2 of them would drop the hammer and go. they would repeat the process about 5 times.

i ran into it by mistake as i was cruising along at a steady 95 when i shot past them in a line up. and then a few seconds later they passed me like i was standing still. was pretty sick actually.

i feel ya tho. i dont like it when i get passed by a mini van at the light.

Well for reference I have already gone 1.585 60ft. That's frekin honking. You have nothing to worry about.

re: 31 spline..why a shame?
re:4.10's....you're using 3.73's? or is that just in the smaller ?Mousestang?

If it was 31spl then it would give a good excuse to upgrade ;)

I chose 3.73 for the Mustang as its a 5 speed, and I had a '89 5.0/5spd car before this one and first gear was useless. Drove the car like it was a 4 speed. Auto's are a whole different ball game. And at the time, my '94 GT was my daily driver.
