I bough a cassette adapter to play my ipod in my ls however whenever I accellarate I get a whistling sound in the background and the pitch increases the more I accelarate. Any ideas what it might be and how to resolve?

Cheers

That's probably the COP failing early warning sound...

Are you being serious or is this sarcasm?

I installed an fm modulator and when I drive with it on I also get a "whittling" sound that matches the acceleration. The sound is not there when the engine is off.I thought it was maybe the quality of the modulator, I bought a cheao one, does it's job for the tv tuner.

Some of both. The cheap (may not be inexpensive) adapter is picking up RF noise from somewhere. The two most likely sources are: one or more of the COPs (Coil-On-Plug) or the alternator. This may be because of a defect with a COP or the alternator, or it may be that the RF emissions are within the expected amount and the adapter is just badly designed.

In theory then if i tried an FM transmitter and it had the same issue would that confirm that it wasnt the cassette adapter and was either the coils or the alternator? What other signals would there be if the coils or alternator were on there way out?

Maybe. How's your AM reception?

Other signs: Poor gas mileage. Reduced power. Slight engine stumble, often mistaken for transmission shifting problems.

My AM reception is superb and i havent suffered any of the other listed problems! My ipod volume is set to 3/4
