I have used car covers on my Thunderbird show cars for 20 years. California Car cover stuff is the best IMHO. I use the flannel lined "dustop' for the ones inside and 'Extreme-weave for when I had to store one outside for a couple years.
Not cheap by any means - a whole lot cheaper then using a $49 el-cheapo cover and ruining your paint.
Only issue ever was the Extreamweave did leave a little brownish - black rub mark on the fender corners which came off with a little wax. Kept the car nice and dry and best yet let it breath - no mold or water spots from condensation.
