Been away from the LvC for a while ...
I've got a 2002 LS V8 with about 130k miles now. Been a great highway cruiser! Had to sort through the typical problems when I first got it ... coils, sway bar bushings, etc... lots of great help from the folks here! Had one intersting problem that we never really answered and want to report back ... when the car was cold, if I took a hard right turn it would act like it completely died for just a second, then would catch. It would definitely freak you out pulling in front of traffic. The problem was low trans fluid. Did a trans flush and refill ... hasnt done it since! Makes sense now that you think about ... it was probably starving the valve body when the fluid wasn't up to temp yet.
Newest issue that I want to run past the folks here. The car has gotten hard to start. It will always start with a second or third try. But half the time it takes a second try. Runs great once started ... no change in gas mileage, etc... You can also smell a little gas when it happens. I was thinking maybe a leaky injector causing a slight flooded condition. But then noticed a CEL ... ran the code and its P0442, EVAP small leak. Anyone think this might indicate a bad EVAP canister purge valve. If it's leaking fuel vapor into the combustion chamber when it shouldn't, might this cause what would appear to be a slight flooded condition? If you're thinking this might be the cause, would you suspect the purge valve or the solenoid? Is there a test? It would sure be great to kill two birds with one stone! And I really don't want to pay a shop to do a smoke test. I've heard these small or very small EVAP leaks can be a pain to find.
Thanks folks!
