blinking check engine light

so last night i was on the highway and my check engine light started blinking so i figure the lincoln was broken like every other month... so i drove my car home and i turned it off and than i tried to turn it on and it wouldnt turn back on at all
and this a 2002 V6

should i be looking for a new engine or what could it be?

Flashing CEL means misfire. Dont know why it wouldn't turn back on.
 
it crank than makes a weird like banging noise than i get scared and turn it off and my lights come on
 
Not a common problem on the v6 but it could be the chains.. someone else will have to give incite because idk too much about the v6..
 
Don't know anything about the 6, but my 8 gave me the misfire sel, and then it went off. Brought it in it definitely had a bad coil. Sel was on for two days, but I was still driving the car, and it magically went off before my appt with the dealer.
 
Agghhhh! Busted! A GM guy! SES! Service engine soon. Yes, although I've had several Ford trucks, and still plow my driveway with one, this is my first Ford car. And I'm really not very proud of that. I'm sure I'll sell it soon and get the Lexus I really wanted. Huge Nascar fan but will not support any driver
who's in a Ford. So sue me!

The Burb in my screen name should have been a giveaway...
 
Rust free 94. Find another one of these in the UP! She may be 17 years old, but she's in her prime. Wanted to lift her, but wouldn't fit in my garage if I did. Sorry for hijacking

Pretty nice.. my friends dad has the newer z71 with the 5.3 and that thing hauls! We got it to spin the tires on a kick down into 3rd..
 
Burbans were mammoth when mammoth wasn't cool. My friend's mom use to take the whole neighborhood to school lol
