black shifter plate cover removal

i need some help on removing the gear shifter plate. any advice?

that is for a 2nd gen, which is silver, since he said black, i'm assuming (yea, yea, I know) he has a 1st gen, which is different. pete should know how to get it apart, since he just had his apart a little bit ago

Yep. page 2 on that link shows how to remove the black upper piece from the white base. There are some plastic rivets that need to be dremeled out.
