On earth.
Well let me start off first by saying that while I do consider myself somewhat knowledgeable in mechanical matters and the inner workings of engines I have never done any kind of engine work by myself. I've always been the "light holder" for my dad back in the day.

Well I know some of you have seen me on here asking questions that pretty much all lead back to the coils, which you all have answered quickly and with lots of good information. Well I ordered those visteon coils and as I waited for them to arrive I kept thinking that I should save some money and try it myself.

I went with that feeling and bought a good craftsman set from sears today and got some good stuff off the tech section here and I nailed it. Installed new plugs and new coils today and the car runs so, so much better. Like night and day really. I live in North Eastern West Virgina. The hills here on the interstate are a killer for MPG's. Even my friends civic gets low 30s at highway speeds, but as you can see with these new coils and plugs 24.4 was my average on a 40 mile interstate trip at 70 mph. I was getting 21-22 previously, much better performance indeed.

You also may recall me posting this thread. http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=81878 about how a dealer told me I had moisture in my coils after I got my flashing CEL over some misfires. Well they wern't wrong.

You can see that 3 of those plugs from the drivers side bank of cylinders are pretty rusted, you could even see a level on the tube of the coils where some rusty water was. After talking with my dad we could only think that some dealer used a pressure washer to clean the engine before sale and that's how that much water could have entered. I had some canned air dusters and I got as much of the rust residue out of the plug opening that I could, and cleaned up everything up around where the coils go. Then I didn't hesitate to use a good bit of silicone sealant around the covers before I put them back on.

More importantly, I would have A) Never had the knowledge to accomplish all this, IE: What coils to get, plugs to get, to get that damn 1/4" 7mm flex drive that was so critical lol, and the really useful tech section diagrams. Also B) the confidence to try all this myself, after hearing about others doing it if it wasn't for all of you that provided me all this good info. So for that, I say thanks. It helped a lot, you guys were really helpful. Especially considering that in even the short time I've been here, 20 threads a week can be answered by telling the poster to get new coils lol.

Thanks guys.

Maybe I should replace mine and see if I can manage to do the same in mpg's. As the saying goes, " if it ain't broken why fix it" and thats why I haven't done mind but after reading many threads on here I'm on the verge of taking the task.

You may want to check your seal on the hood that goes over the cowl. It may be missing or torn allowing water to leak into the engine compartment. USUALLY dealer will use a steam cleaner to clean the engine but there are some not-so-bright dealers out there.

I meant to ask how your install went as I did the exact same thing you did yesterday...I really mean the exact same thing. I went out to Sears for a spark plug wrench, I left with the 260pc mechanics tool set. I was really sick of having a frankenstein tool box that I had to dig through. Then I tore into it took a skosche under 4 hours at a slow pace. What's the rush right?

Anyways did the rear drivers bolt give you a problem? Once you get down how to put a wrench and your hand back there it's quite simple. Also, I had a harder time getting the lower, middle, driver's side bolt in. They couldn't mount that thing attached to the shock tower somewhere else!

Anyways, glad to hear your success story. We did the exact same thing, except I literally dreampt last night that I got a misfire, opened up the coil covers...and they were filled with water. Nightmare.

We told you it was coils!

Seriously the moment any LS onwer senses any shuddering or shaking they need to order visteon coils, ngk plugs, and possibly new gaskets and install. Then if issues persist they should post.

You know youve been around these cars too much when you dream about misfires.

Put it in the welcome email you get when you register, title it "If you suspect the following symptoms, replace coils and plugs" If they persist you can then post about your problem.

It was terrible because it was so vivid. Pretty bad that the worst things that happen to me in my dreams are car problems

Yeah, you all did tell me it was the coils and I didn't doubt you, especially after seeing the huge amount of traffic on this site where literally every similar problem is traced back to these damn coils. You guys were super helpful and know your stuff, hell I know for sure I would have spent way more and bought motorcraft Chinese coils if it wasn't for you guys. Hell the punk kid at advance auto was like "y u go gonna put NGK's in a Lincoln, dey r moar 4 jap cars." Then I told him the motorcraft ones were actually NGK's and he didn't believe me. Sigh

Yes and yes. The rear lower drivers side bolt was somewhat of a tight fit but I had a 6" flex extension and then the 7mm flex socket. So it really only took about 5 minutes. However, the lower middle drivers side bolt was much worse. That stuff mounted on the strut tower must come off in order to even think about getting that bolt out. I also noticed that in the tech section, the diagrams are slightly different then how things were set up under my hood so I had to wing it a little

Yeah, Sears is having a pretty awesome sale on tools right now, I got a 200 piece craftsman set for $129 box and everything, and a scale style torque wrench for $11. It was my lucky weekend I suppose.

Other people have said on here and I agree, people behind the service counters are there just to look up parts and grab 'em off the shelf. Some may be knowledgable but most seem to be kids that can bang a few keys on a keyboard.
