I have done several searches and I am getting ready to order an SCT XCAL3 for my Lincoln. I have an 01 LS V8 and from what I have read there are two programmers or tuners that will program these Lincoln LS. My question is to all that have a tuner who would you recommend for the programming. If some of you have had both run tunes for you is there one that is better than the other? How was the customer service in your transaction? This thread is not meant to bad mouth one or the other I am just curious how your transaction went and if you had any issues how were they resolved. Lastly would you order a tuner if you had to do it all over again?

Thank you for all the replies in advance!!!!!

I have tunes from both Torrie and ILLS, both customer service are excellent, all the tunes I received are very good, the overall seat in the pants and engine running smooth and powerful through the entire power band I have to say the one from ILLS feels better, I had a problem with the trans part of the tune though from ILLS which we could never get resolved, which seems to be isolated to just me as far as I know and I don't know why it happened, if it is something with my XCAL 3, transferring the tune to me or to the unit or what, but seems to be one of those unsolved mysteries, so I run the tune from Torrie and I made a couple of adjustments to get it where I feel is best.

BTW, mine is a first Gen 2002.

have recieved both from torrie and ILLS as well!! ILLS would be a great start for your first tune, very satisfied, great communication from both of them!!

ILLS gave me a good price for my SCT but I wanted to know if he can make a economy tune and a RACE Tune on the same device without charging extra

im sure it would be about $50 per tune... but dont quote me on that..from torrie is 3 tunes for $150

Your best tune would be on a dynamometer live.

You would not go wrong with either Torrie or Ills.

In lieu of a dyamometer tune your best email tune will be up to you and your communication of your needs and expectations with a follow up fine tune with either one mentioned.

Both are known for their customer service.

I used VMP tuning and the tunes work great. I didn't know about ILLS until later.

noone can make a economy tune and track tune. the power comes from efficientcy and so does economy. they are tuned the same. Im sure he can do a tamer tune for the street and then a hotter tune for the track, but I run a very hot track tune every day and everywhere!

Funny that Nick had tranny issues with ILLS' tune. I would say that is where he excells!!!!!! SST on a first gen with 1st gear.... OMG!!!! When I get the dyno time, and the turbos in and yadda yadda yadda, I will be working with him to fly out and tune my car on the dyno.

Have any of you had issues with the original tunes that came from either tuner and had them resolve the issues? This is the information I am looking for.

So far it sounds like ILLS is more prefferred.

i had a once in a lifetime problem with mine, but the problem was resolved very quickly by ILLS!! He's never had that hard of a time with mine, but I have not had a problem since he fixed it!!

I had a re flash and the original tune would not start, quickly fixed.

Once again, either of the two tuners mention will handle problems with their tunes.

Customer satisfaction begins with the customer and their ability to communicate.

Trying to pit one tuner against the other is just a pissing contest and has been beat to death over the years.

That sums it up.

I have a tune from Lonnie at BOC for the Mark VIII and would recommend him also but don't know it he has experiance with the LS.

.

This is well put...

economy comes from efficiency, and so does performance.

tunes are marketed in such a manner the consumer might think there is a seperate and vastly different tuning model for performance vs economy.

I worked for a long time on a so called economy tune, and by and large any economy gains were often offset by poor performance.

there are only a few differences between an economy tune and a performance tune.

On a car that has EGR deleted there are even LESS changes
On a catless exhaust the changes become ZERO.

after I "tossed in the towel" on my economy tune and applied what I had learned to my performance tune, I started getting in the 28,29-20MPG range.

Performance and economy aren't mutally exclusive.

Well I sent a PM and emailed ILLS's at his company email and I have yet to hear back. I am sure he is busy since I have not heard from him. Strange with the economy the way it is you would think people would want to sell something... I am sure I will hear from him soon. It has been 4 days......
