Best or Favorite Tranny Fluid Brand?

I used cheveron, Their gas is the best, why not their trans fluid too? just my 2 cents.

Well as long as they meet Merc V specifications for a full synthetic trans fluid, and they MUST, there really is no difference between them. Now if someone has some PROOF other then "this brand is better because the molecules are blah blah blah..." or "So and so told me..." then I buy whatever is cheapest. That is also recommended on a couple other forums. Typically the cheapest is Costal. I personally use Valvoline because I also use Valvoline synthetics for anything else on the car, always have. Power-steering, read diff, grease, etc...

I thought Mespock was going to answer RuPaul

LMAO? Chevron? Sunoco is IT, do a search.
You only suggest amsoil because you sell it! Trans fluid is trans fluid. If I wanted to spend more money than I would have used mobile 1. BTW, there is nothing wrong with cheveron products or any of the others mentioned. Is the motorcraft fluid junk as well?

I ONLY sell it because it was PROVEN to me in many ways and I have used it, tested it and believe. Also i dont even advertise it, I became a dealer distributor so i can get it for all my vehicles at a great price, it's not even on our site.

Trans fluid is far from "Just trans fluid" Thats wayyy wrong. YES Motocraft trans fluid is garbage. You can have shudder then do the all touted Mercon V and presto its back again, why? Because its a blend NOT a full synthetic and it cannot handle the heat.

I was talking about Chevron FUEL.

I never recommend Amsoil. Not because the products are bad, they are VERY good products in every way. And yes, some are the best at what they do. But I cant recommend a product that is near impossible to find! There is no way I am paying shipping just to get motor and trans fluids. I used to use Amsoil engine oil until the only retailer (Fleet Farm) stopped selling it! They even sold it cheaper than Mobil 1 - which is what I use now.

Cheveron fuel is a top teir fuel that all 3 of the american car companies use.
Cheveron with techron is all that I use in my car!
All of this talk about mercon V fluid, Why did both the lincoln and ford dealer both tell me to use regular mercon fluid? My car has 115k on it and NO shudder at all! The owners manual recomends mercon as well. I am not going to argue this point but it is what is recomended. Just like 5 w30 is recomended for the engine, not the 20-50 that you use, you said that in a prior thread. I would never use such a thick oil in my mark unless it was dumping oil like crazy.:D

An old High perf tranny builder guy once told me to never run synthetic tranny oil in a transmission. I'm sure you all have had your good experiences with synthetic in trannys, but I'll stick to what someone who's been eating, breathing and living (sadly he died now) trannies for over 40 years told me.

Merc V and 5W-20 were both fluid changes issued by a TSB (tech service bulletin) from Ford.

You may not have shudder, but you will if you dont change your fluids. What happens is Merc III brakes down the friction material on the torque convertor. I *think* this had been proven by Darrin and others. If let go too far the torque convertor will fail and you will get slippage and maybe a shudder. The primary cause of the shudder we hear so much about though, is a break down of the fluid itself. III does not handle heat as well as Merc V. So typically the shudder problem is due to negligence of fluid changes or trans abuse (heat), not the fluid itself. Merc V can handle higher temps and therefore last longer.

The 5W-30 to 5W-20 change was also issued as a TSB. It was found that the new 4.6L modular V8 quad cam (not the twin cam) was not holding up well in northern climates. Unusual wear was happening or something like that. It was recommended that the switch be made to a slightly thinner oil to help lubrication. If you live in a warner climate, there is no problem going with 5W-30 or even something heavier. The 4.6L have VERY tight tolerances.

In the good old days most cars recommended a few different weight oils. My 73 Mark IV owners manual recommended several, all based on climate! But due to production line streaming, etc., motor companies tried to standardize on one oil for each car engine. I remember when I put in heavier oil in the summer and the thinner for winter into that 73 :)
