Battery Dilemma

I've been at school and my dad has been running around looking for a replacement battery for my 2000 LS V8 Sport. He's been to a couple auto chains such as Pep Boy's for instance, and they all claim they don't carry it and only the dealer does. Is there another battery that will work for the LS that I can get (that are safe replacements) or do I have to get one from the dealership?
