bad smell coming from vents

whenever i turn on the air a bad bad smell comes through the vents. i believe the previous owner smoked in the car, i dont smoke is there any way to get rid of this smell?

Change your cabin air filter, located on the engine compartment firewall, passenger side.

Advance Auto has them for $17.88, part # C35498.

When you change your cabin filter try one with activated charcoal cost a little more, take a can of Lysol, and spray in to the area past the filter with air going full force. Depending on the humidly in your area of the country might have to repeat after some time, cheaper than commercial spray and work just as well.
