it seems ive been getting bad fuel mileage. im thinking its my fuel filter what do you think? also where can it be located also where can i locate my thermostat?

plenty of things can contribute to bad gas mileage but yeah if you haven't replaced the fuel filter in awhile you should. my last replacement brought about a 3mpg increase in both city & highway. what's wrong with your thermostat is it sticking? i had the mechanic replace it so i can't tell you how to do it but good luck as that is a repeated offender on this car.

The fuel filter is located in the driver's front wheel well behind the fender lining. Can't miss it.

I don't know what year/engine you have, but mine is a 2000 (though 2002 is the same) V8. I replaced my tstat, but because the engine was overheating. Easy job. I took off the intake tube to make everything easy to access. The tstat is inside the degas bottle here:

well every few times i cold start my car after like 5 minutes of driving it the engine temp. goes to its overheating but it cant be. so i asked around and people said it was the thermostat

there could also be air in the system if it still does it after replacing the thermostat (they replaced mine for free). i parked on a steep hill facing up with the heat on high and filled the tank as the air came out. No overheating problems since. Just be sure to check the level whenever your under the hood to avoid letting air back in.

should you still have issues, you can have the system pressure tested.
