Bad brake booster

My 97 started a couple weeks ago I could hear a air sound when I hit the brake pedal now it has gotten worse it's hard to stop the car and the idle changes when I press the brake pedal my guess is a bad valve inside the booster does anybody have any tips on changing it

More detail on what the brake pedal does. Does it become hard when pressed or does it go all the way to the floor. From what you saying it sound like a vacum leak . Have you done a work under the hood lately.

pedal goes to the floor no assist from the brake booster at all and when i lay underneath the brake pedal and press it you can just hear air when i press the pedal and the idle changes im pretty sure its the brake booster i havent been doing any work under the hood

Use your ebrake for slowing down and brakeing. Lol. It is your booster its out and needs to be replaced. Its easy to replace. Remove booster canister from booster vac line. Unbolt and should be three bolt I think from the brake pedal and then do reverse to install. You'll have to bleed the brake lines after reinstall.

Man take that thing to the shop and get the brake booster replaced. Vacuum loss will cause other things to go haywire. Plus you want to be safe.

just replace mine on my 96 t-bird, with a year warranty on the work, cost a little over $500 with tax, to include bleeding the breaks,parts and hourly work it took to complete. makes a big difference on the breaking, wowo, for a minute i was scared to drive it anywhere?This is the second time i had to replace this on this car, i've owned this car for about 10 years now,every five years replacement?not bad?

hmm... just did one of my '65 Birds - 330,000 and 45 years...now that's not bad! Front Disk brakes too. First year - front pads are Bendix part number D1

Deffinatly sounds like a bad booster, easy to replace, don't HAVE to break the master cyliner lines off of the master, just unbolt master from the booster, you can bend the lines as long as you don't kink them, remove brake light switch from pedal, remove 4 bolts on inside of firewall and remove booster....
Be sure on the NEW booster do not adjust the rod..it will come preset
