Back Up Alarm

When I bought my 03 LS the back up alarms would beep continuously and the repetition would get quicker the closer I got to an object or the faster I backed up. One day last week no beep was made when I backed up. I took it into the dealer and they warranted a back up sensor. Now when I back up there are no beeps until I get close to an object. Then the alarms start sounding like they did before (the closer the object is, the quicker the beeps). My question is: Is this the way the alarms are suppose to work or are they suppose to beep continuously like they did before I got the sensor replaced? Hope I’m clear in what I am saying.

It shouldn't beep till you are close to an object. It sounds like your's was defective before it failed completely.

That's how mine is. It will start beeping about 8 feet away then get faster as I get closer. No beeps if nothing is nearby.

Same here. Mine turns to a solid beep once your about to go bump.

Same here. Starts out with multiple beeps (like a radar detector), then get's faster until it's a solid beep when you're real close. Our's is an '04, if that matters.

Mine works as described in the Manual:

Rear Park Assist

The system will assist the driver in detecting certain objects while the
vehicle slowly moves in reverse at speeds less than 6 mph (10 km/h).
The system is not effective at speeds greater than 6 mph (10 km/h) and
may not detect certain angular or moving objects.

The system detects obstacles within approximately 16 feet (5 meters), at
speeds above 2 mph [3 km/h]), behind the rear bumper with a decreased
coverage area at the outer corners of the bumper. If the vehicle speed is
below 2 mph [3 km/h]), the system will detect objects up to 10 feet
(3 meters) behind the vehicle with a decreased coverage area at the
outer corners of the bumper. In the figure, the smaller objects behind
the vehicle represent the near-vehicle and bumper corner coverage area
of the park aid system and the large object represents the extended
coverage area. As you move closer to the obstacle, the rate of the tone
increases. When the distance to the obstacle is less than 18 inches
(45.0 cm), the tone will sound continuously. If the system detects an
object that is approaching the vehicle at such a rate that rapid braking is
required, a very high rate tone will sound. If this tone is heard while
reversing, the driver is advised to slow down immediately until the tone
either changes to a slower rate or stops.

Thank guys. It seems the back up alarm was bad before I thought it was bad. Then when it completly went out I was wondering why it wasn't acting like it did before the sensor replacement. Going by your descriptions, mine is actually working the way it was suppose to in the first place.
Thanks
