So I have been running around this site for a while now hiding in the shadows and lurking mostly in the performance section, but now I have a problem and I need some quick help and solid advice!

I have an 02 V8 w/74k and Fri. I was out in the boonies heading to the lake. I went to pass a slower car and when I got on it it started faltering and falling on its face. She started to stutter and a little and then the check engine light came on. I pulled over and looked under the hood. When I shut it off and started her up again she was running fine, but anytime I gave her a little bit of gas she would start cutting out. If I shifted down and got the R's up a little it would clear out and not hesitate as much.

I am pretty handy so I can fix most things, but I don't really want to take it the dealership and spend the extra money. I have to head to work tomorrow and she is my only car so any quick advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Phil

its most likely a coil issue, if your CEL starts flashing its telling you to calm down your car or your gonna have a problem, if the CEL didnt stay on then thats good, but you may still be able to have the last code read for free at any auto part store on their computer

and if it is a coil issue (most likly is) replace them all. if you have 74k miles on it and stock coils well done, but they will start giving you hell one at a time so its better to just replace them all. fairly easy to do as well.

I had a similar problem a couple weeks ago on my way to the Michigan Nascar race, so 400 miles from home, a weekend, and no tools with me! Anyway, the code was "Cylinder 3 Misfire". Changed the coil and plug and problem went away. My wife told me she has experienced a similar stutter/hesitation since but no engine light, so I may have another (or more) coils going bad. This is what was happening occasionally before engine light came on.

There may be additional warranty coverage from Ford depending on the issue. Ask the dealer.
