Purchased my 2002 V8 LSE new in 12/2002. Still on original battery. (on 3rd alternator).

whats the average age of batteries on here?

my 02LSE V8 had 78k miles and original alt. just replaced it because the CCA dropped by 95 from original on full charge...

The battery was still good but going downhill, I have a Gel Orbital I got for 3/4 the retail price through my uncle, so we replaced it before it was mid winter but 4 to 5 years is average battery life for a 9 - 12k mile a year driver like myself

Thats about what I was thinking. I have 105k miles. The past few mornings, I've detected a slightly..just slightly..slower start. Temps in the teens headed this way on Wednesday, so I think I'll get ahead of the game and replace this battery tomorrow or Tuesday. Thanks.

OEM battery it is not unusual to get 5/6 years plus depending on your weather location, very hot conditions can be just as detrimental as cold.

If you just make short trips you might want to put a charge on it occasionally summer/winter.

My experiences:

1997 F150, original battery lasted 11 years and 150k

2000 Crown Vic, Motorcraft battery, going on 3 known years and 106k

1998 Mark VIII, Motorcraft battery, 4 known years 98k

2006 Focus, original battery 95k

My 02LS I replaced about 6 months ago, 55,000 miles. Usually 4-5 years they have deteriorated considerably. Have not had an alt. failure yet, now at 62,000 miles. My girlfriends 04 Saturn Vue battery I replaced about a month ago. Even though car still started, was cranking a little slowly, and when I tested it on the battery tester at work it failed, so $75.00 is well worth not having someone or me be stuck.

Battery started going downhill at about 109 K on my '02 LS. Also alternator failed. Put in Optima Red Top, and guaranteed-for-life alt. New alt died about 2 months later (and drained bat) while I was in staging at Maxton. Replaced alt and charged bat. Now 15 months later and the third alt is still going. Optima bat holds charge of 12.75. Optima won't even reply to my queries.

Only on the stock 650 Amp battery. The stock 750 Amp battery doesn't have the green/red/black eye.

Personally, I've been waiting for a battery to get weak or fail before replacing it. After a close call a month ago, I think I'll just replace them after five years as routine maintenance.

i just replaced mine, only 111.00

You did a little better than me. Mine was $117.65. That was at 5:50pm on 12/23, so I have no complaints.

Mine was around $20 my dad said, I wasn't there when they changed it 50 miles away...

I love having 3 uncles work at NAPA :D

102K + 8 years

Just replaced the original in my 01V6, I was starting to sweat about when it would crap out. No alternators yet.

A co-worker with a Miata (he's straight) told me trunk mounted batterys will last longer because they aren't exposed to engine heat. I usually throw mine on the charger every couple of months, they seem to last longer. The LS took a long charge in the fall, but I think it sat on the dealer lot a long time.

Actually..decided to hold off. Been starting strong last two mornings. We'll see
