aux input and movies??

so ive been kinda looking into, and havent found anything which may be a bad thing...
i have the in dash nav in my ls, so im wondering since i love the look of it and the thx stereo sounds awesome for stock, so i dont want to change it out. is there something that i can get to fit or hide somewhere thats just an aux input for my iphone?? im thinking something that would fit in the flip up compartment...

2 question..i know the gps runs on a dvd rom cuz it holds more info then a reg cd. so is there some way to get it to read dvd movies or even pics for the screen in my dash? oooor is there any product that is just a dvd player without screen that i could put in place of the factory one, since i dont use the nav anyways...

any help would be awesome...if there are products..read my other thread on credit to use haha

I have an ipod interface. I also have a video interface with back up camera.I play movies on the ipod and the sound for it too, and use the video interface to show the movie on the nav screen. The ipod and video out cable are in the center console. I also added a digital tv tuner so I can now watch tv. Digital signal isn't good when on the move but it's great when sitting and waiting in a parked car.The tv tuner plays sound through the ddirect fm transmitter.

The ipod interface hooks up to the back of the thx nav and the video interface hooks up to the dvd map player. I was told I could either have the ipod interface or video interface but not both.I was also told I could only have the ipod interface or an fm direct transmitter but not both, but I have all 3! I showed them.


This is the aux ipod interface. It has aux and the ipod's normal cable port to play sound and charge.I've been thinking of getting this to reaplace my ipod interface so I can play the tv tuner through this instead of through the fm transmitter I have.

This is the video interface I have. It's not really 600. I got it for like 280 I think. Just look it up by part name online for the cheapest price.This has 2 video ports plus one for the back up camera. I used one for the tv tuner and one for the movies from the ipod. I also installed a back up camera since I have pretty dark tint and it reall help at backing up at night.

I have been wanting to put an ipod interface in my 2004 with factory nav for a while now. I did this with my wife’s Explorer and it worked great for about a year, and then started getting flaky volume spikes and some weird feedback at times so I have been a little gun shy about putting one in the Lincoln.
Have you had any negative issues with yours since installation?

Based on their description of interface kit you have (FRDN-PC-POD-2), I wouldn’t think it would work because it says “…Radio must have external CD changer capabilities…Not compatible with factory navigation radios…”

I were to go by their website application, wouldn’t I want to order this kit instead?

My bad. I did link the wrong one. I actually have one that has a slightly different name.It's like frds2-s or something like that. I can check if you really want my exact part name. I bought mine a while ago and from an eletronic store that ordered it from someone,I didn't get it from this website directly.

I think both will work though, either the one you linked or the one I re-linked.

The only problem I have had with it is that it would not detect the interface sometimes. I would just turn the car off and turn it back on and it would appear. This has only happened maybe 4 times in one and a half years. It actually hasn't done that in a while.Beside those very rare incidents, it has been great and the sound quality is great.

i also want the stock for the looks but couldn't find one for a reasonable price...hey can you play movies while driving and also those it have equalizer to control the subs..sorry so much question..i have a pioneer 4000 but wanted something with navigation

Ipod interface plays sound with cd quality and can be controlled with the steering wheel control, radio controls, or ipod control. The only thing the radio can't do is shuffle the ipod songs by pressing shuffle on the radio. It also does not list the song's names, just says track 1, track 2 ect... I just play my playlist and put it on shuffle on the ipod and then I can't just control the rest from the radio.

To play a video source on the NAV screen, you need a video interface. The video interface only does video, no sound for the ls, that I know of. I was told I would have to do an fm transmitter to get sound from the video source. I found a video interface that connects to the dvd map player and not the back of the headunit, since the ipod interface connects there, so I was able to have both a video interface and ipod interface.

With the ipod interface, I play the movie's sound with great quality, through the car's speakers. I set the ipod's video source to tv and connect the video cable to the ipod that I ran to the center console from the trunk where the video interface is connected to the dvd map player. This way I have great sound quality and a video source on the nav screen to play movies, back up camera, tv tuner or video game.

I can't connect the tv tuner to the ipod cable, for obvious reasons, so right now I have a fm transmitter that connects to the car's antenna behind the headunit. I play the sound through the m trasnmitter and the tv video signal connect to the video interface in the trunk.

I will later on remove this fm transmitter with an ipod interface that also has aux port so i can play movies not on my ipod through this and also the tv tuner through this.

The ground cable which should be connected to the park cable so you can't play movies if the car is not in park, is connected to constant ground so I can play movies when the radio is on and I have a relay to turn everything on radio turns on. It does not have an equalizer, for the subs, but why do you need it?

i just like being able to control the sub directly from my headunit but mine is the base so it didn't come with nav..

Go aftermarket then.

To add factory navigation, you would need...

The head unit.
The DVD navigation unit (mounts in trunk, head unit is dead without it).
Map DVD (about $200 for a recent one).
A different rear view mirror (the voice command microphone is built into the mirror).
A four channel amplifier for the door speakers (the nav headunit has no amplifier, unlike the non-nav headunits).
New speakers for the doors, the nav speakers are slightly different.
You'll need subwoofers and a subwoofer amp if you have the base sound system now.
The navigation steering wheel (the radio buttons are different for the nav option).
A whole bunch of wiring harnesses to make it work. (Note that even though the connectors going to your non-nav unit will plug into the nav headunit, the pinout is mostly different, and won't work at all.)
