I just recently replaced all the cooling components on my 2001 Lincoln LS V8 with many scrapes and much cursing. The original auxilliary coolant pump
( XW4H-18D473-BA was not working. I took the coolant pump apart and found that the motor brushes were worn.
If anyone is interested in this pump, make me an offer and I will replace the motor brushes and make the pump operational again. The motor commutator is smooth with no grooves.
If I would have known this earlier, I could've have saved myself $150, which is the cost of a new pump.
Old pump # XW4H-18D473-BA was replaced with # 1W4Z-18D473-AA

I figured that I would provide a little more information concerning the repiar process for those interested in getting a little deeper.

You have to take the pump apart from both ends. Check the pump end and check to see if the magnetic drive cup is cracked. If all is well, then put the pump end back together with the correct orientation. If the magnetic drive is cracked, throw it away, no parts are available.
Now remove the commutator end and check the brushes. Also chceck for continuity from the connector pins to the brushes. Most likely the brushes are worn down severely enough so that they make little to no contact on the commutator. If this is the case, then thoroughly clean the inside of the motor and make sure the commutator bars are not too badly grooved. If you're good to this point then shine up the commutator bars and apply some oil to the end cap bearing and let it soak it. ( not to much)
Now you have to locate and then replace the brushes.
If you can locate the brushes then solder them in place and reassemble the commutator end cap and you should now have a good functioning pump motor.

If anyone is in need of an aux. coolant pump please read further. The pump that came out of my 2001 Lincoln LS V8 was dead. I replaced it with the new Ford unit at a cost of $150.
I have repaired my old one by completely disassembling, cleaning and installing new motor brushes. This old pump functions just like new. I believe that $75 shipped anywhere in the continental US a fair deal. Please PM me if interested.
