Wondering if anyone has ported/polished their heads or done any kind of cam swaps?

I have ported / polished heads and a total radius valve job. 2000 model v8 Sport. Left the cams alone due to concerns about reversion and the engine going into failsafe mode.. About to finally add a 100 shot of nitrous as I am almost to 5000 miles. Actually, it should have already been on but I had a month long ordeal with one of my newly refinished wheels.

where did you get that done? send the heads out to somewhere? I had often thought of having it done. Would you say it was worth the cost?

Jms Racing Engines in California. They had a full engine and did a complete remanufacturing of it on site. The car definitely pulls better in the mid to upper rpms. Is it drastically better? No. But, it was done with the intent on putting nitrous on at a later point. Car has never been dynoed. Cost to port and polish was $1000.

damn, that's a chunk of change. Not a terrible price, just more than I have to throw into the motor. But its cool to see people doing out of the normal type mods

I agree. It's not for everyone but will pay dividends shortly. :)

Not looking because I don't feel like it, but from another thread on here I think we've come to the conclusion that running cams is too risky. Someone ran custom ground cams and it was noted that it died a few weeks later.

There isn't a company that makes them so custom ground is the only route. I think someone was trying to contact a company to run some but I'm unsure on that as well. I'm full of uncertainty. As sweet as it would be to have them it's not something that's been done on these cars. Always room for R&D though if you're willing to put your car away for some time.

For my knowledge why is port and polish advantageous when running "drugs" on a car? I'm assuming to help mixture and flow?

You are pretty much spot on J. The more smoothly and and efficiently air is introduced to the engine, the more effectively it makes horsepower and more of it.

Thanks mayne. That's what I figured. It's simple fluids, thermo, and physics really.
