Anyone have this grille?

This isnt a grille, its just an insert.

And it looks cheap.

Bought one. Put it on. Took a picture, then took it off. And guess what, that's 30 bucks I could have put towards a real grille wasted. Don't do it. You will be surprised and disappointed at the piece of crap that comes to your door.

What Alax did looked great though because he actually made a grille out of the material rather than laying it on top.

Here's Alax thread: http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=66578

The way his looks is how the ebay ads make you THINK yours will look....but no.

^^^ Thanks

If you want to be different, I would suggest you make one yourself with weaved mesh since the cdc grille is also very very hard to find and costs a pretty penny too. The replica OI made looks great. The cdc grille comes with weaved mesh, which is what I used to make the replica with. Unless you're very close up, you can't tell the difference. The cdc mesh is slightly thicker than the one I used, but the one I have was easier to work with and cut. I still have a giant roll of mesh if you want some. 15$ or 2 pieces for 20$

Then I got it color matched

I am also thinking of blacking out the cdc mesh so it can go better with the lse bumper being black. Just thought I would share sice we're talking about grilles

Alex, how much would you charge to make one. I can send the grill out tomorrow, and you send it back whenever you finish. I am about to park the LS until March.

Alax your grille is fresh lol.. How much for one similar haha

Thanks

I am actually going to do another grille in a few weeks. I bought it because a member wanted to buy mine off of me, but I told him I would make one for him, I picked it up on craigslist. If he doesn't want it anymore I'll put it up for sale.

It has to be a gen2 2 piece grille. I used the grille surround and attach the mesh to it. Gen1 grilled only have the top piece, having the bottom part of the waterfall, but gen2 grilles have the top and bottom as one piece.

I would do it for 20 for labor and 15 for the mesh, so 35, you pay shipping both ways.

My problem is I do not have a gen 2 grille, but I might buy some material from you and once I find a gen 2 then make it. How much out of curiosity would you charge for the one you are about to make?

35 mesh included.

When you find one, make sure that it is a 2 piece grille. If you buy it online, ask for a picture of the back and you can tell if it's a 1 piece or 2

I didn't see where you had colormatched it Alax. Real nice! I need one of these as a backup/change of pace. I'm going to take a look at the one I took off. Although...two of the clips got broken...

Got it done a little while ago. I got my 3 grilles color matched plus the rear surround. I also did the lower parts of the bumper 3 weeks ago, just need the side skirts

Clips that are at the bottom of the grille? If so, then thet are part of the water fall, which comes off to install the mesh

I wouldn't touch that grill Alax7, with the color matched surround it's perfect. The chrome in the lower grill and that grill go together just fine. Don't over think it and end up going too far with tweaks. Sometimes you need to realize you've got it just right. :-)

Only problem is I never see LSs in the salvage yard (maybe a gen 1 once in a blue moon) and most people want a pretty penny on ebay for a stock grille, but Ill keep my eye open I guess...Unless by some chance I can ge the one you are about to make. Keep me posted if you end up selling it.

Thanks rodewaryer. I was going to do the real cdc mesh in black since it comes off and will be easier to paint. I can always reverse the process or just chrome the mesh.

L_king, try craiglist. Thats where I have gotten mine.

I bought that same insert and like it quite well. Here are a couple pics, plus I have one in my pic gallery. http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=70340

Now, it is interesting that in the pics you can still see the vertical grille a bit, but when looking at it in person you do not see that.

When I installed the Mach 1 spoiler I also put in the same wire mesh in the lower grille. I looked and looked at hardware stores, construction surplus places, online etc. for a sheet of that same stuff and could not find that same mesh for the life of me.

Well, one day I was at True Value talking to a friend and I happen to look over and see the exact same mesh. It happens to be a rain gutter anti leaf guard. The reason I tell you that is the grille on Ebay is $30 but the entire gutter guard is $4! The gutter guard is big enough to use for the LS grille plus some. SO, if you want to try it, buy it at a hardware store first and save yourself the money if you don't like it.

This guy on Ebay is making a killing on these.

Here's mine for the day or so that the mesh was on it. De-marko your car does make it look better. Great tip about the hardware store. Can't hurt to try it at that price.

yeah it doesn't look too hot on a white ls. Maybe if you removed the waterfall and installed a bigger piece from the back, it would look better.

Thanks!

When you installed your piece, did you notice that you had to drill about 10 additional holes than what the instructions told you just to get it to lay on the grille right?

When I opened it and saw it I knew it wasn't something i was going to be drilling holes for lol. I just kind of secured it and took a pic, then took it back off the next day. But it takes way more securing that what the instructions say. It's because of that stupid tube he sends it in. It comes out curved and hard to work with.

Right, mine was the same way in the same type tube.

Alax, I do like your grille big time. Wouldn't mind having something like that!
