I was sitting in my car idling in a parking lot when i heard the tell tale chime and looked down and saw this message. The gas guage went completely dead, (below E), was atleast half full and the trip computer wouldnt show and DTE data. I shut down the car and it went away when restarted, but seems like an odd message and hope it isnt bad things to come.

While it could be wiring or the REM, it is most likely that your passenger side fuel level sender is failing (the contacts get dirty).

GM has a lot of trouble with this, and they have a special fuel additive that they try first to recover the sender. I don't know if it could work for us or not.

I saw it one time in the 50K I have put on my gen II, I turned the car off and it has not shown up since. That was probably 10K ago. I chalked it up to a bettery needing replaced since it was needed at the time.

was it recently raining or was the car just washed?

and did your mileage display _ _ _ _ _ _ ?

I had that same message for years until I found some frayed wires.

I see it every time I remote start my car until I put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position. Never saw it til I put the remote start on though. Gen 1 vehicle.

I got a Gen 2...... odometer didnt change, wasnt raining, hadnt been washed, just sitting in perfect Florida weather with car idling. After the message showed there was no difference in idle or the way it was running. I was actually kinda afraid to turn it off just in case it wouldnt restart, but it restarted fine. Havent seen it since. Just a message i've never heard of anyone seeing. Makes me wonder how many other types of possible warnings the car is capable of showing in that display.

BTW.... Just turned 170k !!

I've seen it, but it went away quickly. I know of others who have as well. In your case, I can tell that it's the passenger side sender because the gauge went to zero. If you're lucky, it will take so long to fail completely that it won't be an issue for you. If you're not, it's not too difficult to change out yourself.
