I have noticed something that occurs only when driving in hard rain storm. I have the stock intake box but i removed the snorkel thing attached. When under the car i see a direct path to the paper element of the filter. Is it possible that when driving in hard rain and having lots of spray from other cars that water is making its way to the filter element? I would think that driving at 65-70mph there is a decent amount of "suction" thru the airbox and that water in the air could easily get sucked in and clog up air filter. When driving highway during rain and then come to stop at off ramp the engine seems to stumble a bit at idle. Only happens during rain. Could water be affecting the filter? Also noticed recently when replacing filter that the metal mesh on the backside of filter has some slight rust, suggesting it was getting wet.

Thoughts?

i would think lincoln designed that intake with the snorkel for a reason.. try putting the snorkel back on and go for a ride in the rain. see if it still dose it.. if the air filter is wet and its sucking the water in then yea the engine will stumble and idle rough until the air filter drys out agin.

I would reinstall the snorkel that is on the stock intake. Don't want it hydrolocking on ya, happened on my bros SRT4. See if that changes anything. Dry out/change the rusty filter as well.

what exactly is your set up...

Its 100% stock with the exception i removed a snorkel looking thing that attaches to the front of the stock airbox. But i dont see how that is any different than a KKM type setup which is a complete 360' filter. My reason for removing the part was to gain somewhat less restriction and it does give it a lower sound. I believe the snorkel is more to muffle the sound than functional to airflow.
