I have a great new years story.....And I swear it's true!

On New Years Eve, we had a party at my place. It was sort of set up as like, five mini-parties in one house. Though with only about a max simultaneous count of 10 people, not all five got utilized, or at least not simultaneously. The idea was Movies on the bigscreen downstairs, modern video games on the 30" in the livingroom, TV on DVD in the bedroom (in this case, Family Guy Season 4), more video games (older stuff) in the computer room, and a jam session in the recording studio also downstairs. The way it turned out is the big screen never got turned on, there were not any older games played in the computer room. Family Guy was on in the bedroom, and my cousin's x-box 360 was featured in the livingroom......, eventually a few of us made it down to the studio and did a little bit of jamming.......there was also alcohol, yet at only four drinks spanning the time of 7 oclock to 2AM, and nowhere near drunk, I was the big drinker of the night....in other words...nobody got drunk. :)

Anyway, the plan was that people would mingle and migrate between events as they saw fit, but at midnight, we'd all meet up, watch the ball drop and then share resolutions with eachother. Well, as we entered the final moments before midnight we realized that the satellite was not working....(alright, fine...with Christmas and all, we forgot to pay the bill. :) ) So anyway, it's a mad mad scramble through the house to find the rabbit ears and when I do find them, I rush up to the bedroom, which is the only TV where I had instant, easy access to the coax input. This TV also has an intermittently failing tuner. :)

Now, this is no lie, not even an exageration. This is real time: I rush into the bedroom, everybody clambers in after me. I unhook the SAT coax, plug in the rabbit ears, turn the TV on, take it off input, switch it to channel 13 and: "Three, Two, One.....HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!.....Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy***TSCSSSSSSSHHHHHHH".....(the tuner cut out and we went to snow.) So our tuning into the new years special lasted all of about 7-10 seconds, but they were the most important 10 seconds.

Talk about down to the wire (both on finding the ears, and the tuner's tenacious grip on life) Anyway, it's a memory we wont forget. There was all this tension, not sure whether we were gonna make it or not, not sure whether the tuner was gonna see us through, and then relief that we made it, comedy that we made it so close, and then comedy again that the tuner lasted just-long-enough.

I wish we had got the whole incident on camcorder. Then again, I suppose had we dicked with the camcorder, we would've missed the ball.....that's okay. For us who were there, it's a lifetime memory, and for everybody else, it makes an amusing story. We did get the resolutions on tape though.

Anyway. I thought I'd share that story.

Now, Share yours. :)
