Is there a way to get rid of the power antenna and use some sort of short rod stationary antenna?

Ya. Its just an antenna like any other. Should pop out easily. If you really felt up to it I bet you could pop in a Gen II rear window with the integrated one. I would do that but dont listen to AM or FM ever.

You can also just put in a stand-alone amplified antenna; you can usually get them for about $15-$20 from the car stereo place; hook one wire up to ground, one up to your accessory on lead... and you're set; epoxy that SOB under your dash... Get the hole for the antenna filled on your fender and repaint!

Why do you want to?

If it's because the nylon cord broke, it's not difficult to replace the mast. It'll probably take a similar amount time to fix, as is will to replace the whole assembly.

I do not like the look of the antenna. Especially when it is fully out.

I think what he's getting at is its ugly as H3LL when the antenna is up...look like a remote control car man...i just unplugged my power connector still get most radios but not ones from a distance...screw radio anyway...

Yea I hate the way it looks as well. I'm saving up to have the hole plugged in and have it painted over.

I'm getting rid of mine once it warms up. I'm jsut gonna fill the hole in and listen to cds and my ipod like I always do.
