so when i start my 01 ls it jumps to 300rpm and stays there. if I come to a stop and let off the brake it takes off.
do I need to just clean the throttle or what?

any answers or help

open up the hood and check. Mke sure there's nothing interfering with the throttle cable, remove the intake tube (with the engine off of course) to see the position of the throttle plate.

I can't imagine it's good for the engine to idle at 3000rpm for an extended period of time.

I'm not a mechanic. Those are just the things that I would check. I know it could be a computer thing too, because I can set my idle speed in the end user options in my xcal.

If you do decided to clean the throttle body, be sure to remove the entire throttle body from the vehicle. The throttle body cleaner, if it gets into the intake manifold can cause issues. Best bet is to remove the whole throttle body and clean that way.

IAC valve? on my tbird mine used to stick and do what you describe. I think my LS is starting to do it too, but not nearly as bad. luckily the LS IAC is MUCH easier to change than a 94 tbird lol
