I'm not a guru, but after looking through the service manual it sounds like Motor Synchronization (timing). There is a micro switch assembly on the motor that if out of time could be causing your problem.

You might try local library and see if they have a shop manual for your 96 or get a service manual from an auction site. Does not look complicated to do, but a manual has pretty pictures that you need to see.

noisy roof

Anybody got info on adjusting the moonroof to reduce wind noise. I can open and close the roof and it gets better for a while. It just seems like its not compressing the seal enough.

id say either the motor is out of sync, or the switches in the motor are bad (only can get with motor) now the real question is it a factory stock roof, or a dealer installed one? factory ones have the switch mounted between the map lights.

Get a smarter wife?

She thinks she's smart just like the rest of them.

Now as for the moon roof it is factory. I believe its out of sync. Just didnt know how to get it lined back up. I guess I will go buy one those manuals with the pretty pictures. LOL Maybe then I can figure it out.

Most wouldn't have taken a jab at their wife so kindly :D ... I wish I could help ya with the sunroof...

Would like to know the simple fix as well.

Right now - there's duct tape on the roof, to keep water+wind noise out.

We can play with the switch to jiggle it to 'almost' quiet, but it never gets there.

Nevermind, our issue is probably a seal.

moonroof

Max has the seals for $109. I'm just wanting to know how to get the moonroof to pull down tighter to compress the seal a little tighter to reduce wind noise.

Moon roof adjustments

Glass Panel, Height
The correct position of the glass to the roof is as follows:
Front Corners: Flush to 1mm below roof.
Rear Corners: Flush to 1mm above roof.
1.Cycle glass from full open to full closed position.
2.Remove three halo retaining screws along front of opening inside of vehicle and slide halo and sunshade fully rearward to expose six glass retaining screws (three each side).
3.Loosen six glass-retaining screws. Then, tighten them so that they are snug, but not tightened to specification.
4.To adjust only the front of glass, loosen the center and front screws. If it is desired to adjust only the back of the glass, only loosen the center and rear screws.
5.To check height setting, open the glass about four inches, then return to the closed position.
6.Tighten the glass retaining screws.
7.Slide halo forward and replace three retaining screws.
8.Close sunshade if desired.

Glass Panel, Fore-and-Aft
1.Operate sliding glass panel to the full-open position.
2.Loosen 12 screws (including the single screw at each front rail corner) retaining the adjustable side rail covers.
3.Locate and use the series of hash marks at each front rail corner. Adjust glass panel fore or aft as required, making sure both sides are uniform to hash marks.
4.Tighten all retaining screws.
CAUTION:
Hand tighten all screws. DO NOT use air tools or damage to holes in housing may occur.

No pretty pictures

I was told at the dealership a few years back that those seals will shrink just like the origionals. You may be better off using the website mentioned above.

there is no pulling it down to get it to seal tighter, its kind of a "slip seal" it slides through the roof opening. pulling it down is just what you do when it opens

Good job!

Great work. It sounds like this will compress the seal a bit further and quiet everything down some. Thanks, K
