Do I need to remove the passenger front tire at all to remove the alternator? Or does it come out straight down, read online to remove the tire but nothing on this site about that step

The tire does NOT need to be removed. Disconnect the battery. Take the intake tube off. Remove the belt. Remove the three bolts holding the alternator on, then remove the electrical connector.

To get the alternator out, you turn the alternator with the pulley up, then you twist it about 30 degrees and pull it down between the frame and the lower control arm. It's a major pain the first time you do it, but after awhile it's a 30-45 minute job.

Then you need to play more Tetris. ;)

Problem was the top bolt would not go through, bottom two lined up perfect, the top one would not no matter which way it went in or was maneuvered, eventually after enough prying and beating the bolt was able to hammer through

If you remove the right side engine mount bolt and jack the engine up about a half inch or so (there is a jack point under there, 2x4 between the engine and jack), that bolt slides right in with no trouble.

Just curious as to how this helps with the top bolt? Since both the lower and upper parts of the bracket are bolted to the engine, how does lifting the motor help align the top bolt?

I remember fussing with this a bit and figured it had to be the brass tension pins being pulled towards the alternator from someone overtorquing the bolts. Tried hitting them back and couldn't budge them with the terrible angle it was at. I just ended up filing down the alternator mount a little bit.

The only bolt that was a problem when I did mine was the long one, and is the one I am assuming you had a problem with. Jacking the engine up a bit moves this bolt above the rad support, where you now have plenty of room to install. At least I think it was the rad support, it's been a while since I pulled my alternator.

If this was not the bolt you had a problem with, I don't know what your problem was. I only had a problem with the one bolt.
