Aftermarket lighting

For non HID, I am pretty damn impressed with the SilverStar Ultras. :D Back to my tree.

Yeah I've seen those around, those are sweet, I've been debating, silverstars or a HID kit but I can't seem to figure out if I need a projector for a HID

No you don't NEED HID projectors. They would give you the most amount of light output though.

Most of us just have HID retrofit kits.

If you are looking for HID-like bulbs, Hoen and Nokya are good brands. I used Hoens in my 2003 LS (no HID) and in my 2006 LS (HID on low beam only, high beam replaced with a Hoen bulb to match the light color. Ditto for the fog lights). You can purchase these from Ken Garrison at LSKoncepts. You should also check out his website since he sells several retrofit HID kits too.

Ebay has some pretty good deals on HID kits that you can get probably around 60 dollars or so but it won't me near as good for customer service or product itself as lskocepts would be.

I have a kit similar to the ones lskoncepts sells. Mine were made by Umnitza, and were 125/pair. You will get a pair of ballasts, and a pair of HID bulbs. Easy, plug and play installation.

My color temp is 6000K. I have a set in both low beams and fog lights. Here's a picture of them on. Mine is the one on the far left:

You definitely have the best one of the three in my book. It doesn't mean I like you though.

If you decide to stay non-hids... Im warning you now, While Silverstars look good, they BURN OUT QUICK. I had read about the problem when I worked at AutoZone for two years, but since I had my managers discount Id keep getting them... My first pair lasted over a year, I was fine with that, but after that set theyd go out every couple of months... and at 40 bucks a pair or more for the newer silverstar ultras, its not worth it for minimal output difference.

You're better off getting a HID/Ballast kit like Umnitza, you'll save money in the long run and get what you're looking for right from the get-go.

That pic makes my car's lights look the worst Pete :( and it reminded me of my fog light incident a few months back.... :(

Either way, I can get the Sylvania Cool Blues at work for fairly cheap, the 9005's and 9006's are same price, I believe either $7 or $8 a piece, or a 2 pack and save a buck.

I know I am a noob here, but I have been in the car scene for many years building show cars, lowriders, mini-trucks, and race cars. There is one thing I have learned in my many years of modding cars and it is that it is always best to do things properly and keep safety as a priority. Your question concerning the use of projectors with HID's is a simple one. You should absolutely use a projector. Without the projector, the light does not get distributed properly. You wont see very far, they throw glare and are horribly inconsiderate to other drivers. They are a potential hazard to yourself and other drivers. Do it properly with a retrofit or update to the factory LS HID's .

You don't need HID's. Replace the low beams with H9's, which install with little modification (I seem to recall having to trim one of the little tabs, they fit fine and have worked perfect for over a year in my LS and I drive after dark A LOT). Raises the low beam output from around 1200 lumens to over 2000. High beams can also be upgraded to HIR1's (check them out at http://store.candlepower.com/9011.html) the 1700 lumen 9005's can be replaced with 9011 HIR1's, which have over 2500 lumens (a 49% increase in output for $23ea). I am a light freak and so far have felt no need to add further auxilliary lighting to my LS as the bulb upgrades are pretty good. The little Cibies in the bumper have been upgraded to the H11's that I took out of the headlights, probably increasing that output by over 30% as well.

Some of my other light projects.....

Hoean and Nokyas but for the cost the Nokyas rule. Dont mess with those garbage Silverstars I have had way to many bulbs blow prematurely and those that didnt looked like crap within a few months.

If you really do end up with HID dont go for those cheap ebay ones. You end up with crappy bulbs and have to buy the good ones right off the bat or the ballasts are very cheaply made and dont handle any of the heat.. Get a good brand, I suggest HIDplanet.com for references on brands.

i want purple lights, hows those nokyas look? will i need that wiring harness to go with it for best effect?

Depends on the stage. Stage 2's you need a 20$ set of heavy duty harness' that can be found on ebay with free shipping.

I get constant compliments by people thinking they are HIDs and unless you are behind the wheel of my Highlander which has a HID retrofit kit you cant tell the difference.
