My car is in the shop getting the ball joints done, my mechanic calls me and tells me the alignment is not adjustable because from the factory the car doesnt have front end eccentrics that are adjustable or something like that?

He said one side is within spec, but the other needs to be adjusted, and its a 70 dollar part to put on just to align it?

Has anyone ever heard of this?

Yes. They make the alignment guys job easy enuf for a monkey to do it. They are not necessary but recommended. The alignment can be done without them if the guy knows what he's doing.

Tell him to stop and take the car to a different shop because this guy doesn't know what he is talking about. The front is fully adjustable and any half skilled mechanic can align the car. You can buy aftermarket kits but really not necessary if you are stock.
The rear doesn't have camber adjustment and there is very little he could do about that.

I have them on mine but I have eibachs springs. The place I took it too told me it wasn't necessary but with the drop it will help. When I was stock I took it to a Buick dealership (for body work/insurance money from an accident) and they didn't say anything about needed alignment bolts.

They are completely unnecessary with stock suspension, but we've already told you that. The standard procedure is to loosen the bolts and use a prybar to move the arm. With these, they can just turn the bolt.

You can also get MOOG K80061. $21 at RockAuto per side.

so... is your car lowered, or does your mechanic just not know what he is doing?

Yeah, I have to have my car back by today, I got one at Napa for like 40, the other side was already in spec, I couldnt wait for a delivery.

Yeah I'm guessing alignments arent his specialty. But he has given me good prices on all my other repairs so I just bit the bullet.
