Alright I just got a Alpine 4 channel amp... I've read how the woofers are in parallel and the tweeters are separate... so everyone recommends rewiring the rear woofers... my ?? is... why would you do that?

wouldn't it make more sense to leave them that way?... and just hook the woofers to rear channels and the tweeters to the front?... I mean I understand you'd lose the function of fading... but who really uses that?... and if you wired them this way you could tune the tweeters separately... you'd have more control over the gains and crossovers and wouldn't need bass blockers on them...

Any input on this logic?

There are no "woofers" in a Mark per say. All four speakers have four separate companion tweeters and are really mid-range speakers of all the same build and size.

If you want to maintain the 8 channel setup from factory, get 4 cross-over boxes. They often come with component speakers, speakers with tweeters built above the cone. Alpine Type R for example. They are small and will fit almost anywhere.

Take the crossovers and wire them between the speakers and tweeters. This way you can maintain a pretty good sounding system. In my case I used the Type-R composite tweeters but used the factory tweeters up from to maintain more dynamic sound.

But really, you will want to replace all the speakers. While they are not complete crap, they do not hold up well to an after-market amp and you may hear distortions.

What other components do you have? Head unit, etc?

i agree with unity, just start over, its not bad, just take your time and do it right.
i currently have:
pioneer headunit
mtx 4 channel amp
mtx 2 channel amp
mtx crossover before the subs
some cheepy blaupuknt 5x7" 3 way speakers in the back seat (deleted the tweets in the back, no need)
a clif designs 6.5" component speaker set in the front doors (mmmm carbon fiber cones )
2 pioneer 10" subs in a cheep ebay sealed box
i just built the sys slowly, started with the headunit than the subs, box, crossover and 2 channel amp, then i did all the interior speakers and the 4 channel amp. mostly all of it is hidden, all you see are the subs in the trunk, just plan plan plan!

Yeah I'm pretty good with car stereos... a lot better than with the actual car... I figured I got a good deal on an Alpine amp... it's four channel... with variable gains... I just thought maybe it would give me more control...


my plan is... Im gonna upgrade the amp... then the rear speakers... maybe through in some pretty nice full range and keep the tweeters for extra crispness... then the HU... and then hopefully I'm lookin at some infinity perfect 12's for the trunk... maybe just one... i'm not into earth shattering bass... just like it full... but yeah thanks for the imput... I think I might just have to rewire the whole thing... it would be better in the long run

How hard is it to take the doors and interior apart?... I had doing it... I always end up busting a clip or something... also how do you pull the back seat out?... does it just pull out?

As far as the back seat, you take the bottom off first. To do this you push inward on the front, in the center of where the passengers would sit. There are two notches that hold the seat, one on each side. You just unlatch the seat and lift it out. Once the bottom is off, there are two bolts holding the rear part at the bottom, kind of where the seat buckles attach. Then you unbolt it and lift up slightly and pull it off. Most of the interior panels are pretty self explanatory. There is a tech article about taking the door panels off. Try searching for some more info. There have been a few threads on taking stuff like that apart.

If you plan on using the factory head unit and speakers little will be gain with the amp

Twin 10s will give you great sound without overkill. Even one 10" can. From what you describe, I would avoid 12" all together. I have twin 12" Type R but love really deep crushing theatric bass.

Did you get an MRV-F340 4 channel by chance?
