My car's at the dealer right now. I called to check on her, and they replaced the rack and pinion, and one other seal. Also did the alignment. Now they say that the trac dash light is on, and don't know what's wrong. I didn't even know there was a trac light on the cluster (I have the message center). Anyone have some diagnosis tips? I want to get her back today so I can paint the calipers this weekend...

i had a post on this not to long ago pete. i'm at work or i would look for it for you

If it's already at the dealer, tell them to fix their mistake, hook the car up to a scanner and find out what the problem is lol

I was just reading it rick. Like a dumbass, I didn't use the handy "search" feature because I was in a hurry. Thanks though. :D

Oh, and I have it at the dealer where I bought it from, which just so happens to be a Chevrolet dealer. Hopefully they have a Ford Specific diagnostic tool to read codes that other ones won't.

since it happened when they had it in their posession they should fix it no questions asked i would assume?

That's the case so far... I just got off the phone with them again. They don't have a ford dedicated diagnostic scantool, so they are trying to call around to ford dealers to get help.

The service guy is trying to say that he doesn't know if it's something that happened there. I told him it wasnt' on before, they disassembled parts related to the advancetrac, and now the light's on. Where else could it have happened? So, looks like I'm not painting the calipers this weekend...

Guess thats why I go to the Lincoln dealership. Pay high prices for that customer guarantee. I don't think the Ford dealer would be any better than the Chevy dealer.

Wait a minute. Its not the message center telling you to check the advanced trac but its the orange dash light with the squigly lines?

The service guy is bringing it to Northland Ford/Lincoln in a neighboring town. So, technically it is a Lincoln dealership.

The only reason I brought it to the chevy dealer is because that's where I purchased the vehicle and the aftermarket warranty. Since they know the warranty info, I didn't have to do a thing. Just bring it in, they fix it and deal with the warranty people, I pick it up and pay the 50 deductible. They also have a "fix it right" guarantee, so I don't have to dick around with chasing down a problem's cause. They are going to fix it for me (even if they don't know it yet), they just don't have the proper equipment to diagnose.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but don't the brakes play a role in this light. I remember when I let some hole in the wall do my brakes the light was on and then they found out that the guy did not bleed the lines properly. I'm not sure of why they would do all that with your brakes.

it's a sensor Jwerner. at least that's what a few people said it was on their car. some were dirty or full of moisture.

I'm wondering if they recalibrated the steering angle sensor properly on reinstalling a new rack and pinion. Would that cause the light?

i don't think it would. i hope it's not the abs module tho, max described the problem and it seems like a PITA and also expensive.

Wouldn't these problems register in the message center instead of the activation light ( excluding the dirty sensor )?

I'm guessing it's not the abs module, because the light came on after performing the service work. I'm guessing something was done incorrectly during the procedure.

At least I REALLY hope it's not the ABS module...

my dash light had came on as well but it was accompanied by the "check advanctrek" in the message center as well. i still dont know what's wrong with my car but at this point the light hasn't came on in a while so "out of sight, out of mind"
