So i was leaving Walmart about a week ago and pulling out of a parking space, i reverse as far as i needed, put the car into drive and look over to my left....a little blue toyota is backing up. I tap the horn to let the driver know i was behind them...nothing, i lean on the horn harder...nothing, 1/2 second later...bam. Stupid ass old lady didnt know i was back there until she hit me and stopped her backward momentum.. Its her fault, there was only some minor paint transfer on my rear driver door handle so i wasnt not too worried about it then. Her trunk hit my door handle and the bumper hit the wheel, now when i say "hit" i'm talking about a 1-2 mph roll, no visable damage to anything other than the door handle which was buffed out and looks as good as new, but the rear wheel now has a slight vibration as if its out of balance.

Question time: I am taking my car in for service next week for brakes/fuel filter. What should i have them do about the vibration? Balance wheel? 4 wheel alignment? There is no way the wheel is bent or anything like that, but could such a minor bump to the wheel cause it to be jolted out of alignment? I'm not too terribly worried about it but i definately want it to go away seeing i spent alot of $$$ for five new tires recently and dont want that one tire to wear all funky.

Any feedback to the cause of a slight vibration after a 1-2 mph bump would be great before i get to the dealership.

Unless you had wheel weights on the outside of the wheel, it's doubtful that they/it would fall off and make it unbalanced.

I had a little bit of vibration, so I changed all four tires (needed it anyways) had them all rebalanced, and I still experienced a vibration and a slight pull.

So I took it to get a Four wheel Alignment and everything went away, it was like riding on air after that. the alignment was about $50.00.

im hoping the wheel hub/axle didnt get bent ever so slightly...have you tried jacking the car up in the back on proper jackstands, starting the car, and watching the rear wheel?

Thats what I was thinking, that it's not necessarily the wheel. When you take it to get the brakes/fuel filter have them do a 4 wheel alignment.

Next time at wallyworld you'll do like I do and park (literally) at the very back of the lot, so that there's only one open space next to me. A little exercise never hurt anybody. And Lucy's never been hit by a door, cart, or other car at a grocery/otherwise store.

If i put it reverse can i reverse my mileage?? Just kidding, had a Ferris flashback.

The vibration is kinda odd, its more noticable at low speed and is hardly noticable at highway speed. I'm really thinking that it didnt bend anything. She was backing up kinda slow and her bumper sorta popped in then was able to pop back out, so it wasnt like it had alot of force to the impact. Regardless there is still a vibration that is present now that wasnt there before the accident. Where i'd be getting f*cked is the insurance claim has been closed since the paint on the door handle just buffed right out.

Anybody know if the rear wheels have a vertical (camber) adjustment? Thinking its possibly in a negative position due to the bump.

Oh Hummmmmmm

Ok, what could have happened here.

1. Wheel bent.
2. Tire Damaged.
3. Balance weights feel off.
4. Rotor warped.

Could be the tire sidewall polyester plies broke inside the tire sidewall. This would lead to a variance in the tire which would cause a vibration.
Look closely at the wheel also, see if you can see any unusual impressions on the outside of the flange which would occur during a collision.
Any change of shape could cause a vibration to occur. Good Luck.
Oh, try rotating the tire to another location and see if the problem changes too.

Wanted to post an update to this thread. Just had my tires rotated, and now instead of a little vibration in the rear i have a steady vibration that shakes the steering wheel side to side. Horrible. I am still in disbelief that such a minor/slow impact bent a rim. Thinking i'm gonna just have them put the wheels back they way they were and deal with a tiny little vibration in the rear. Since moving to the front it is like 1000 times more noticable at all speeds, before it was only noticable at highway speeds and even then you really had to concentrate. Stupid f*cking people who cant pull out of a damn parking spot. Such a little thing but VERY annoying.
