My AC Blend door motor has gone out again since I have no heat. Without warranty dealers, want $750 to $800 labor plus a $65 part to fix. Has anyone done this? Is there anywhere to read the steps involved in removing the entire dash and console to get to the part to be replaced?

Thanks so much Gman. Now can you help on this one on a step by step.
Intake Manifold Runner Stuck Open?" (Bank 1) I have no idea how to get to this little motor between the firewall and the back of the engine. Maybe I have to remove the valve cover?

Well GMAN, I got it done. It took me two days, about 9 hours, some of that time was having to epoxy parts that the dealership in 2002 broke when the replaced the part last time. They also used the older part number, not the newer one. I could not get the dash out far enough until I found two nuts in the very front under the console area that were not in the article. Once I removed them I got the dash far enough back to get to it by feel and some sight. The farthest upper screw was the hardest to screw back in. I had a small 5/16 in box end ratchet gear wrench, but it was so hard to keep on the head of the screw.
Thank you so much for the article. I never would have known about all the nuts and bolts and screws one had to pull to get the dash back some.
Oh, we are headed for a freeze in two more days, so glad I have heat again.
Lee :)

yeah, those two nuts under the console had me stumped for a while but I eventually found them and was able to pull the dash enough.

srry to hijack youre thread man but if someone would answer a question it would be greatly appreciated.

im undecided weather my blend door went out or my motor did.

i turn it on and i hear the most faint whistle. but nothing at all comes out of the vents.

p.s. i can feel a little bit of air come out when i am doing 40+mph
i would hate to take my entire dash apart and find out it was the blower..

p.p.s. is the blower motor hard to repair?

just drop the glove box and wiggle around the black and orange wires on the blower motor. It should kick back on.

my blend door is out too  .......no heat whatsoever, i live in the desert though :D ........

Nitrobasher your problem is the connector to the blower motor thats not making contact correctly theres an article somewhere too.

*04 beat me to it.....yay dial up..... -_~

yeah... so after damn near 8 months with no heat nor a/c i go into the glove box.... again! and look at the blower, and then i look behind the blower and see that the connector is completly unplugged an tucked away in the back.

either someone played a joke, or i hit a seirous bump!

We are having cold weather right now and my blenddoor is out so Im driving my focus right now.
The dealership here charges $45.90 for the part and Im broke right now.
The temp has been the high 30s for the last few days, so I just reach under the dash an pull that lever down .
It helps but not a whole lot so next week Im going to install that part and be done with it.

Save yourself some money and either buy from Maxx at 5 Star Ford,(mention this web site to get a discount) he charged me $30 plus $4 and some change for postage I had the part in 3 days. I had this replaced under warranty in 2002 and the dealership apparently used the old part number not the new one. Maxx said I should have had the new one as it was done in 2002. Be careful when you pull it all apart, the mechanic at the dealership chipped my plastic wood surround that went around the radio, broke several plastic pieces with in the console and one of the screw brackets thet went to the steering wheel upper cover. I had to epoxy them with a epoxy I got at Advance auto for plastic. It holds in about 4 minutes of you holding it and then dries hard within 4 hours. Don't miss the two nuts under the center console under the dash way up in there.
The hardest nut to find and get loose was the one way up in there on the left side under dash. I also found the plastic soft grill material in the defroster area was coming loose so I used rubber cement to glue it back in. It is a good 8 hour job or longer as in my case because I had to let stuff I glued harden. You will need a small 5/16 ratchet gear wrench to get that left upper screw on the blend door out and back in. I put it all back together the next day. If you donot have the radio U-shaped tool I got mine at Advance Auto as well.:)

And.. in my case, don't forget to plug the control plug into the actuator, BEFORE you reassemble the dash.

I have to do this too. This makes my second winter without heat.

It's funny, I'd rather pull an engine that do this job - this is going to suck. :(

I'm kinda' looking forward to doing mine but not till the weather warms up or I get a heated garage.

Well this Feb, I will have my car in getting it's new stereo install, so I will tackle this at that time. I am sure this is my problem as well. Sucks that the part is so cheap but the labor is so intensive. My dash will be out anyway, so I am sure it will be an (God I hope so) easy fix.

Im starting to learn that nothing is easy on these babies but the end result is well worth it,and thanks for the info I can use all I can get.
