I just replaced the ac compressor in my 01 v8 LS. New unit is a Motorcraft and instructions say to drain oil from old unit into a measuring cup. Chart shows that if 3ozs were drained out, drain 3 ozs from new unit. 4 ozs-drain 2 ozs. 5 ozs-drain 1 ozs from new. This to ensure not too much oil in system. My old unit had about 1/4 of a teaspoon. I think oil had leaked out of old unit and am hesitant to drain any from new unit. Anyone replace their compressor and have this problem? What little oil came out was clean, no shavings or discoloration. Instructions also said not to replace rec/dryer if no evidence of contamination.
Thanks,
Ben Hess

You ran the oil out of the old one. You need to replace the receiver/dryer, and don't drain any oil from the new compressor. If the old compressor really failed, you need to flush the whole system at a minimum.
