Hello.
On monday I'll be driving 600 miles in my parts Mark and my AC compressor is knocking badly in idle.
If I rev the car up to around 1100rpm the knock disapears.
The whole belt wheel (what is it called? o.O) on the compressor is loose, I tilt it sideways (in this case forward and backwards in cars direction) quite alot.
But I think it's self stabilizing or something at higher RPM and would it maybe be any difference if I somehow force the clutch to engage?
Also, do you think the compressor will hold up for a 600 mile journey I really have to do on monday?
Cruise RPM will be pretty much around 2000RPM, maybe abit over through out the whole journey and the AC compressor is completely silent at that RPM. What I'm worried about is that it's the bearing that's completely ruined on the compressor and it will become a 12 gauge shotgun inside my engine compartment and I'll have to try repair it on the side of the road.

if that bearing comes apart, you'll throw the belt and you'll have no water pump, no power steering, and no alternator. sure sounds like its about dead. got anything else to drive?

Check the center bolt that holds the clutch onto the shaft. If you can't fix it I wouldn't drive it.

I have nothing else to drive. I need to drive this one to my fathers house where I will picking up my other Mark Viii. I do have a spare belt and a somewhat siezed AC compressor which I will bring with me on the journey.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out.

Sorry for typos or such, typing on my phone :)

A little update then.
I lost my apartment keys while skiing so I couldn't start the trip until yesterday.
Took a while but my car made it! Can't belive it really did it. Only trouble was that the hood refused to close and lock. The lock thingy got bent somehow.
Anyways, I took a chance with driving the car the way it is and I knew it would break down. But it didn't!!
This is why I drive american cars :)
