Just have a few questions...

1. How many of you go off the oil life meter? I just got the oil changed this morning and had 3200 miles (still full :D)and the oil life was still at 40 percent. I figured if i went off the oil life i probaly could have got 6000 miles out of the oil change.

2.From my first post on this website a few members let me know my wheels were not right and i needed to swap the rear's. When i went in to get the oil change and free tire rotation i told the guy i had directional wheels and i needed the rear swapped and he thought i was stupid. I had to go out and show him and he still didnt act like he noticed they were directional. I drive alot of miles and im not quite sure how to rotate the tires, how would i go about this or do i just not rotate them?

3. Still on the subject of wheels are any other lincoln wheels universal with the mark viii?

4. I have a cel on and it is for the imrc's being stuck.. I really dont want to tackle this, would it be possible if i went to the ford house and got the motorvac injection service done would it help the problem or am i just wasting money?

Thanks guys i really like this website and have already learned alot from yal by just browsing the threads and articles.

1. Yes, thats what it is designed for! The public has been brainwashed to think that 3k intervals are needed. Maybe back in the carburetor days, but engine tolerances and seals are sooooo much better. There simply is no need. Even back in 1979, the recommended interval of a 5.0 liter Benz was 6214 miles. The bigger concern is in the filter. If one is really worried, changed the filter at 3k. But with a proper filter, that is not even needed.

2. I never really rotated mine. Under normal use they will wear pretty even until then last few thousand miles where one may notice more wear on the inside/outside of the fronts. To rotate, just go front to back. In the days of full size spares, rotation was much more critical since 5 tires were involved and it was best to keep the spare in the loop. That way one does not end up with a 20 year old spare that is flat.

3. Search, there are some that will fit. I think the LS shares the same bolt pattern and has the same or close off-set.

4. As usual, another post that has no year mentioned. If its a 96 or older then the IMRCs are vacuum controlled and it can be a little easier to test them out. It could be a bad vacuum line or actuator. Do a search here for Seafoam and try that first. It works well and many have had great luck. One of the few "snake-oils" that is not. You may need to use two cans.

1. Thanks for the info... I run motorcraft 5w30 with motor craft filter, just wasnt sure to use the oil life meter or not.

2. I hadnt thought of front to back DUh!

3. Thanks

4. Sorry i thought i posted, its a 96 model. I tried seafoam when i first got the car a few weeks ago but only used half a can.. I will do the other half then wait a few days and do another can... The original owner told me that for the last year he started running regular gas in the mark viii and after about the 2nd tank the light came on (which are the IMRC's) Ive been running supreme in it every tank but the quality of fuel keeps going down here. Use to be 93 octane and then 92 then 91 and right now supreme is 90 octane :( so not sure if there is any point to run supreme.

Thanks

The ls wheels are 60 offset and don't look right on ours w/o a spacer.

I get well over 3k/3months out of an oil change according to the monitor. I drive mine quite sane and check the oil every so often to make sure it's full and of a good color.

Imho anything 90+ octane would be considered premium. Around here it's usually 87reg/89mid/91-92 or 93 for premium. I ran 89 when i was unemployeed every so often with no problems but wouldn't suggest doing it.

Read up on Seafoam cleaning, not sure how you used it. But a half a can is not much really. It need to be sucked into the intake, then you use it to stall it out. Let sit for a while, crank her up and take it on the highway. More detail on here, but just putting in the gas or crankcase is not helping much - if thats what you did.

If it still does not work I would check the linkage for movement and consider taking the IMRCs out for a manual bench cleaning. Its really the only way to clean them up. Then you can inspect them for other issues.

I used the vacumn port on the center of the intake... I dont put it in the oil or the gas.

Thanks

Perfect. But then if you already did it, you many have some more work on your hands :( Removing the intake is not too hard, just lots of time moving stuff out of the way.
