Coulndn't find anything in a search other than controller stuff. Anybody have the blower motor go out? The controller doesn't seem to be the issue, the motor tries to spin, labors, groans, emits a smell. Seems like the motor has a bad bearing or similar.
What's it take to test/confirm and of course R&R? Whole dash deal?

I'm short on time right now.
The blower is easy to change out, no dash removal.
I've heard of two or three blower motor failures so far.
I'll give more details later.

Okay, here's the blower replacement procedure. It's an easy hour or so DIY project.

You'll want to replace it before it does kill the speed controller. Changing out the speed controller is a major ordeal that does require removal of the dash, or one of the creative shortcuts that another member posted.

Thanks a million

Best news I've heard all week. Thanks a bunch.

Replacement Blower Motor

Any tips on a source other than the stealership? Rock auto shows a Motorcraft pn for $54 but wondering if I can source locally. Hotter'n a mother fletcher here in the "big valley". Not Dallas or PHX hot, but really hot.

Hmmm

Motor was fine, the fan had cracked and was slipping on the shaft. Came out easily though...

Yep.

So, another plastic part that sometimes fails...

Yup, $40 plastic part at RockAuto, local guys (sometimes helpful) would have had to order it.
Not unlike so many others including window lift clamp fixtures, door handles etc...

Couldn't wait....

I didn't want to wait for the fan from Rock because it's really hot here now, so I MacGuyvered it. I super glued the crack that ran across the shaft sleeve, clamped it with needle nose vise grips. Let it dry for 24 hours. Then I chucked it up in my lathe and cut a shoulder around the front and rear of the sleeve that fits over the motor shaft leaving two .550" collars. I used aluminum oil drain plug washers to fit tightly over the collars. Super glued those in place and installed it. Works so far.
