I'm hopefully moving soon to go back to school, and I don't plan on having a Mark VIII when I go (for a variety of reasons. I have a '97 LSC).

The good:

-Low mileage: 90,600
-No tranny issues at all
-No bad rust (as far as I can tell. It's a California car).
-Spring conversion front and rear
-New Moog lower control arms
-Body is 90% or so straight. A few dings here and there, but nothing major.
-Have some extra parts. A few plugs, coil packs and boots, a new Fel-pro valve cover gasket set, a new (generic) IACV, a used steering column (not sure if it works).

The bad:
-Needs paint
-Knock/thud in front suspension. Could be uppers, bushings, rod ends, maybe steering rack. Replacing LCA's did nothing to stop the noise.
-Seems like there is a tiny bit of play in steering column.
-Replaced blend door lever. Then 3 months after that, this: It works, but doesn't seem to work fully, meaning: I get cold and hot, but not very cold or very hot. When I manipulate the lever by hand (make it go all the way) I get very cold, very hot).

The Real bad:
-Most likely burnt or worn valves in cylinder 7, leading to 50 lbs of compression loss, rough idle, bucking, hesitation, slight loss in gas mileage.

Based on research, advice, etc. it appears dropping another engine in is much preferable to taking the head apart. So, basically, the car needs an engine.

A recycle yard here is willing to give me $425 for it. Obviously, I'd like more. I'm not able to part it out, will need to sell the whole car. Any thoughts? Price?

I'll add a few pics.

Id drop in a new motor for about 1k and get rid of the car for around 3k-ish. Jmho

I've thought about that.

But closer to 2k, than 3k, realistically.

Not a big demand for these cars where I am.

I bought it for $1500 with no engine trouble...just suspension clunks, foggy glass and crappy paint (from sitting outside for years).

Add a table spoon of oil into cylinder 7, recheck its compression, if it builds more compression its rings, if not, then it is valves

To a certain extent...does it even matter?

I'm not taking the head off, taking it apart and fixing it.

So does it really matter to me if it's rings or valves?

Serious question.

(Or would you suggest some sort of additive based on a rings vs valves finding?)

I would think you could get $1200-1500 on Craigslist as is. I have seen parts cars for more, and yours sounds like its alot nicer than just a parts car.
