i recently bought a 97 black lsc with 33000 miles on it....mint!! It has a couple of minor problems.....

when i have the cruise control on at 55 or 60 under power the rpms stay about 1600 or so. when i go down a hill and start coming up the hill it revs 200 to 300 rmps higher for a second or two then goes back to the proper rpm?? is this normal?

the telescoping steering doesnt work. is this a hard fix?

at wot it shifts at 6500 to 6650? well past redline. is this normal? i dont think it was ever chipped. one owner, old woman.

the rear neon doesnt work. anyone got a ballast?

im new to the page. any help would be nice. thanks.

I know is REALLY hard to roll back the Gen IIs, but with 33k thats a lot of unusual problems. With 33k, I would not worry though. Lucky you for finding such a low milage Mark! :D

The RPM spike is the TC unlocking. This is very normal and very reproducible. Its not a gear change, but acts like one. When the drivetrain demands more power to sustain speed it will first unlock the Toque Convertor to allow slippage so the engine can build RPM. Next would be a shift to the next gear, if Over Drive is on that would mean a shift to third. I can do this all day long on the highway. Just tap the gas enough to strain the driveline and it will unlock, anymore and it will shift. NOTE: Never drop to second ( to pass) with OD on, turn it off first then go WOT to pass. A shift from OD to 2nd is not healthy for these transmissions.

Since I have a 96 I cant help you with the steering but many here can!

Red-line shifts are normal if WOT.

See Jamie for a ballast or there is a member, who is not active I think, that makes new ones for the neon. Anyone recall that guys name?

And WELCOME ABOARD!

his name is glitch, isnt he on .org? i know jamie has his email (i saw him post it elsewhere)

welcome to LvC, whats up with all these LOW millage marks popping up all of a sudden? id be happy with twice the millage, im only at 148k and a year newer lol

^^^ has a new aftermarket ballast for the neon. I beleive it costs around 90 shipped. Requires some work but it is new and not a used unit that will cost you twice as much if not more.

I ordered one as a spare a month or 2 back . Good quality. Very detailed instructions.
