96 mark viii fuel pump...tech. help needed

I've just been told that my 96 Mark viii needs a fuel pump. the independent shop that' it's in gave me an estimate of $500. Does that sound reasonable. Or am I getting skrood? I am assuming it's an aftermarket pump. also Does the tank need to be dropped or is there access from inside?

Tank needs to be dropped. But it doesn't have to be fully dropped.

A 255lph HP Walbro pump should run you around 120 bucks. I've seen them as low as 99 dollars though.
