OK,

I'm putting in a new in-dash unit and this one has different color wires...

But all is going good.. have one quick question... on the non-JBL systems what are the 2 blue wires for? Solid Blue and Blue with White Strip?

They are not witht the set of speaker wires.

One of them is probably for the power antenna. Just a guess.

Edit: I looked at the wiring schematic for a 96 and it only has a DB wire listed, and it is Radio ON signal, I'm assuming it's just a 12v remote source. If you're putting in aftermarket, I'm assuming the 2 wires you're talking about are on the harness, on like an installation kit. You should check the 2 wires with a DMM, I'm thinking they're probably 12v remotes, maybe one for power antenna and one for amplifier.

I found this in the Conti forum... I'm assuming that Ford isn't too stupid and most Lincoln systems are set up the same way.

If so this will explain a lot. With all the radios that I have installed in my Mark VIII's all the wire colors matched and everything went in smooth. This one just looked funny.

If the Blue with the white stripe is power to the amp. What should I connect it to? As the Blue wires from my new in-dash unit are speaker wires?

99% of the time in newer cars this is the color code
RED - Switched power
YELLOW - Constant Power
BLUE - Power Antenna
BLUE/WHITE - Amp Remote or Accessory turn-on lead
BLACK - Ground
ORANGE - Dimmer
GRAY - Front Right
WHITE - Front Left
VIOLET - Rear Right
GREEN - Rear Left

Here are all the radio diagrams and pinouts for a 94 Mark VIII:

Thanks and I have the diagram but what I'm being stupid about are the color codes...

When I think I have them right then something ends up seeming wrong.

So - What colors are:

P/W? Purple with white?
W/O? White with orange?
W/R?
LB?
PK/LB?

Where do I find the explanation to the codes in the shop manual?

Also what do I connect the BLUE/WHITE - Amp Remote or Accessory turn-on lead wire to?

Rich how did you get your radio out? Did you use coat hangers or did you buy the tool? Just wondering cuz im trying to get mine out.

p/w = purple w/ white stripe
w/o = white w/ orange stripe
w/r = white w/ red stripe
LB = Light Blue
pk/lb = pink w/ light blue stripe

I don't think the FSM/EVTM lists all the color codes- they're pretty straight foward. Just remember P = purple and PK= pink so you don't mix them up ;)

Is that you Derick?? What are you doing in Mark VIII land. I'm reading CV.net right and start reading this site at the same time flipping back and forth, you got my head all mixed up now.

I have the tools (they are only about $4.00 at local auto parts stores NOT Autozone) but I haven't pulled a Ford Radio for a while... haven't had one. LOL...

Thanks for the Color code read but I don't have Pink wires. on my harness... LOL... I think I have it figured out. The two that I'm trying to figure out are the Blue Wires and what they do. I looks like one is for the AMP and the other for the antenna. I need to see what the orange wire does. Just trying to make sure everything is hooked up right. If all the colors matched I'd be fine LOL... I still wear Granimals (lets see who remembers those) so I can match my clothes LOL...:D
