Does anybody see a problem putting 9005 hi beams in my low's? Obvisouly i would have to solider on the new harness. Im just not sure if it would melt anything or ruin my wires.

The 9005 and 9006 operate at the same wattage. The two differences is that the 9006 bulb has a painted tip and the sockets are different on both.

What would be the purpose? Aside from being brighter? I always thought the low beams were more than adequate. If you like people flashing you, I guess you could do it.

The high beams and lows don't use the same wattage bulbs. The highs are 10 watts more. And you don't have to change out the harness to use 9005s in your low beams. All you have to do is cut off a couple of little sections of plastic on the 9005 bulb and it fits without a problem. The 9005s put out more light then the 9006 bulbs. I've done this on my car and have had no problems with it.

I keep having problems with my right low beam. For some reason it keeps going out and the problem is in the harness. So i had some 9006 harness' and a set of 9006 bulds that i was going to wire in. Thats the only reason for it.

The problem with the harness is weird. I test the wire and one is + and the other is - like it should be. When the lights are off they are both + like it should be (- trigger). When i test the pins in the buld (took the small cover off the back) It wont negative trip it just stays positive. The buld wont come out of the harness, its stuck or melted. So i cant test the pins in the harness. So thats the issue and if anybody has had this problem and fixed it let me know.

Once again, why? If it's a problem with your harness, go get it fixed. This isn't an '88 oldsmobile that you can just slap things together on. New headlights are what, $50 a pair? I just spent $50 on windshield wipers today, and I'm paying for college on top of that. Spend the money and get some quality equipent!

Let's have some pride people!

This is the third set of lights. Im guessing its not the bulds thats the problem and this is the second harness that has been put on. The dealer charged me 100 bucks the first time and 2 weeks later same issue. Also if its going to be brighter then thats always a plus. Pride or money has nothing to do with it. Im just not going to get raped by the dealer again.

You pretty have to expect to get raped by the dealer. If they didn't fix the problem the first time, I would demand that you should not have to pay for the first repair, and for them to try a second fix.

As far as the electrical problem goes, your guess is as good as mine. It does sound like a harness issue but if you've already replaced it you need to check other points in the harness farther into the circuit. Fuses? Defective bulbs?

Be aware that any time you exceed the wattage of any electrical component, you're going to have to deal with issues of heat and therefore melting (I'm an electrical engineering major). Lord knows how many times I've melted capacitors by not using proper wattage. Also check and see that all parts of your harness (the WHOLE harness) is properly insulated. A grounded wire is one of the easiest problems to fix, but one of the hardest to diagnose because you have to inspect every inch of the wire. Check especially where the harness is around any moving parts, sharp exposed metal, pinching, etc... Of course going back to my original argument, the dealership should be able to find and diagnose the problem and if they do any work that does not fix it, you shouldn't have to pay for it.

Yeah i demanded, then was told not ever to come back. Got kind of nasty. The guy i started dealing with was an A** from the start and didnt want to help me. So it escaladed and subsequently im not allowed back. Thats why im dealing with it myself. I did the swap lastnight and took it for a long drive. Seems fine, i dont smell any burning and i put a smaller fuse in so if it was going to draw too much the fuse would pop. So far so good. They are a little brighter and are not so yellowish. We will see what happens. Thanks for the input guys.

Good luck. Definitely find a better dealership. You do not deserve to be treated like SH*T when you're shelling out hundreds of bucks to do repairs.

I was kind of in the same boat. THere were two Lincoln dealerships in town and one closed. The other (where my mother had bought both of her continentals) was changing ownership. They had cut back on inventory and basically stopped giving a crap. So we decided that we would change to the Ford dealership down the road. Not only are they greater staffed and quicker with repairs, they are friendlier and in most cases cheaper. Just rmember that you dont' have to stand for it and check out the FOrd dealerships in your town to see fi they will do Lincoln service. 90% will.
