I am interested in putting some 6x9 speakers in my car, but i cant figure if the LS comes with wires that i can just hook them up to. Has anyone done this and if so how hard was it to do?

the only place that 6x9's will fit is in the rear deck where the factory sub go, there is an amp for the factory subs(if you have them) and the amp only has low pass (no highs) so if you want 6x9's back there you will either need to reroute the rear speaker wire to them (instead of the rear doors) or get an amp for them

From what I read in the workshop manual, there is an amp in front in the dash near the steering wheel. I think it said it was for the Audiophile system, but I've never heard of such a thing in an LS, it was either Alpine or stock, and then the gen 2's came along with the THX. Any insight onto the subject?

yea, its a little amp for the effect speakers (the 3.5's on each side of the console) and the THX systems use a much larger amp in the trunk in the left side (i think)

i put 6x9's in my rear deck without the subwoofer attachment thing, im using the two front door speakers and two deck speakers so i didnt need an amp. i had to cut the carpeted deck so the top of the speakers show. its a lot of work, if i was doing it all over, i would skip that and upgrade the 4 normal speakers and add a sub

I was considering doing this as well, but looked at it and determined it was going to be a little bit of work. If you are putting full range speakers you are going to have to top mount so the sound can be heard or either cut the dash out if you bottom mount them. Which is going to lead to you having to put the speaker covers or fabricating some to match with the inside of your car. Like the above post, just upgrade your door speakers and add a sub and you will be good.

Thanks everyone for your input i figure its going too much work for an extra pair of speakers, i have already changed out all my door speakers and just installed a sub and amp. I thought by adding some 6x9's it would give me a overall better sound quality, but i am pretty happy with what i have now.
