Has anyone had this problem?
I notice my 2005 CTS (10.500 miles) is doing this but at random. Tried all the quick fix's such as different brands of fuel (all 89 or higher for they life of car), GM fuel system cleaner. Was at the dealer yesterday for 3 hrs and they found several codes in the Transmission Control Module. They also said there were 2 PCM upgrades they installed but they could never get it to ping (problem not duplicated). So they wanted me to test drive it with the new updates but 1/2 mile from the shop it was pinging. Their tech drove it from about 20 miles and says he could not get it to ping once. Just called them back and told them it was still the same. Said they were going to call Cadillac and work on finding a solution. Said he would also order TCM for the trans in case they find codes stored again. I guess the codes indicated random trans upshifts but they can't figured why the engine is pinging. Everything else checked out. They ever test drove a indentical GM Certified used CTS and claimed it drive exactly like mine in the way it shifted etc.
I hate these anomalies that only occur when you drive and the techs can't duplicate the problem and when they can't, they don't know what to do? Its like they think you are dreaming up the problem. While I get ever indication the service manager wants to fix the problem, I wonder how hard the techs want to expecially when he claims he can't make it to it.
This is not the first problem with this car;
in order of occurance
Dead battery (first couple days if ownership)
new cat converters (check engine light)
new O2 sensors (check engine light)
new rear axle (howl & whine)
radio problems not duplicated (CD's shuffling)
all that before 2,500 miles
If they don't get this fixed ASAP, this car is gone.
