Friends,

Need some advice. I stopped into a local dealer yesterday to look at a black 2006 LS (V8) that I found on line. I'm now in the process of haggling with the dealer about price, as I want to maintain a certain monthly payment. The car was supposedly red tagged and marked down from $29,950 to $26,982. I'm wanting the dealer to come down another $2k and wondering what my chances are of that happening. The dealer gave me the car and I've had it for two days now; I'll be bringing it back tomorrow. Anyway, a few facts on the car.....

Just ran a carfax on it and it appears it was sold late 2005 to a rental company. From there it was sold in an auction to the local dealer. I find no discrepanies via car fax and it has 9k miles on it. To me, it is solid and in excellant physical and mechanical condition. With 9K, it also has the balance of the factory warranty. I'm not 100 percent up on the options for this car but this is what I do know.

----: No nav system/No Rear Park Assist/Standard 17" machine aluminum wheels.

++++: Heated and cooled seats/Power moonroof/AdvanceTrac electronic stability system/Lincoln Soundmark Audiophile with 6-disc in dash CD changer (sound system ROCKS!)/walnutshift knob, steeringwheel, dash and door-trim panels.

This said, any idea as to how far I can push the dealer without insult? From my study, I know dealers are trying to dump these. Any comments regarding the purchase or evaluation of the car would be most appreciated. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,

John

Mach, I am just letting you knoe that I found a 2006 LS V8 with 3K on it for $23,990 at a local dealer around where I live. I called on it just to see what the deal was with it and found out it was a new car trade on a brand new Navigator because the guys wife was pregnant with tripletts and the owner wanted to stay with Lincoln. Also the car has been on the lot for 80+ days and in Ohio I know if they have it on the lot for more than 90 days they have to start paying taxes on it and are real eager to drop the prices, thats how I got my LSE! If you want I will give you the web site and you can check it out......Let me know.

Actually that's high for a used LS, you can get a brand new one for that price. Maybe in your area they are not very cheap, but here in LA I see cars that are $14,000 off of their MSRPs.

Especially it's been a rental car and is probably abused.

Hey thanks guys! I was thinking it was a tad high as well. The dealership bought it at auction with 6k on it and someone at the dealership has been driving it for the additional 3k. The car is however in excellant condition and I have found no problems with it. Also, it is black and my LS will be BLACK! I'm going to pursue it but a little more aggressive in the haggling.

2002Ohio....please give me that website. I'm going to print off the info and take it to them.

I'd agree-that's about what the sale price should be on a new LS. If htey won'tr budge on that price, have them find a new one, because I can almost guarantee that they can find you a new one with those specs for very close to that price. As a matter of fact, that's really close to the sale price of my '06, and the only difference I see is that mine (as I bought it) was a non-Sport (base shocks, 16" wheels, and no SST). I have the 17" wheels on it now, and the SST is sitting in my living room...

Heyyyyy a fellow Okie and an OU fan to boot. Tough game agains Texas, but I rather expected it.

Thanks for the input Sooner. Anything else???

John

From the cursory search I did (you can do one via Lincoln's Web site at http://www.lincoln.com/shoptools/co...Code=Lincoln&modelYear=2006&vehicle=lincolnls ), I couldn't find any new LSes in the OKC or Tulsa areas, but there are a bunch of them left. IIRC, there have been ~400 sold YTD, so there should be around 1,000 left on the lots and in the pipeline. Your local Lincoln dealer should be able to find one.

If you know someone who works for Ford (is the glass plant in BA still open?), they can hook you up with an X-Plan PIN. It's only useful on the purchase of a new FoMoCo auto (including Lincolns, Jags, etc), but a new LS can be bought in the price range you're seeing.

If you want used, my '04 is still listed as being available on the lot in Norman... ;)

Also, it is black and my LS will be BLACK!

I thought the same thing until I realized I had to was the dog gone thing every 2 or 3 days just to keep the dust from showing so badly. I've seen a few silver 06's on here that look awsome with the sport package.

Yeah, Boomhower has a point. Black cars look great when you wash them, but almost as soon as they dry, they start looking dirty again...

Machspeed.. I would advise not buying that car that was purchased for the rental company. Although I do not doubt it has now been broken in, I would be afraid that it has been serverely abused.

I made a purchase of a black '06 LS with the soprt package. The LS has the premium and elite packgages. Everything except side curtain air bags and auto pilot came in the car. Navigation, heated cooled front seats, heated rear seats, extended parking assitant, 17" chrome wheels, memory pedals, etc. The sticker price on the car was $49,000. I purchased the car for $32,000 (without knowing someone at the dealership).

If they went down this low for this car, just imagine how they still made a profit.

Some more advise. I love my '06 so much that I went out and purchased a '02 on Tuesday and picked it up today. Although I was not able to talk them down as much, I found it a lot easier to talk the dealer down on a new car that no one has owned. Everyone has to make a profit, therefore if two people have owned it, the base price raised twice. If you have the opportunity to buy a brand new car, I would have them do it.

Finally, I would also suggest calling the dealer over the phone instead of in person. Be prepared. Know exactly what you are looking for (color, features, etc.). Mention that you have one or two other cars that you are looking at. If you're not, they don't know. Make up realistic prices on those imaginary cars. Talk prices before going in person. Anyone that tells you that they can't give you prices over the phone but only in person is full of crap. If they cannot satisfy you over the phone, they have no business being a sales person.

Good Luck
