2004 Executive Interior Door Panel

I am actually from over at the LS'ers forum but I have a friend who has an 04 TC that has the door problem where the interior handle breaks. It seems as the only fix is to replace that panel (which apparenlty is expensive assuming you can even find it). Are there any fixes/rigs you guys do with yours that I could relay to him?
